The scenery in Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park is dominated by fells surrounded by Forests and mires in their natural state. Because the area’s nature is clean and beautiful and the terrain varying, the park is a wonderful place to hike, ski and enjoy the outdoors. The silhouette of the fells can be seen practically at all times and the marked trails lead visitors to the National Park’s most beautiful look-out spots. The picturesque beauty of the Pallastunturi Fells has made the area one of the Finnish national landscapes.
Ylläs-Pallas National Park is a very big area that you have to visit. Yllás is in the south and it's more for people who want ski and enjoy in bars and disco. It's possible visit the Snow Village near Yllásjiarvi Ticket 15€). It's a big house made with ice and snow. you can see amazing rooms and take a drink inside it. Pallas is in the north. I think it's the best part of the park. You can really enjoy walking inside nice Forests and show amazing landscapes. For go to Yllás-Pallas National park you have to book a flight for Kittila (i came from Helsinki). I think it's important rent a car if you want enjoy all in that park (there are lot of company which can rent cars inside Kittila airport)

Great fun activity to do with the family. Friendly staff and adorable dogs. You (or your children) will want to bring a puppy home with you. The seem very well cared for and the whole experience feels safe and professionally run. I will happily return here and recommend it.

Pallastunturi Visitor Centre provides information on fells and introduces visitors to the unique and beautiful scenery of Pallas-Yllastunturi National Park.
Pallastunturi Visitor Centre is open round the year (but during low season only on weekdays). It offers free Exhibitions, wifi (WLAN) and lots of information about northern nature and Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park. You can also buy fishing permits and hiking maps there.
Many interesting hiking trails begin from the visitor center, e.g. Vatikuru Nature Trail (3 kilometers) and Taivaskeronkierros Trail (4.5 kilometers to the top of Taivaskero Fell and then back, together 9 kilometers). Taivaskeronkierros Trail offers extremely beautiful views from the highest fell (809 meters above sea level) of the area. The last 700 meters to the top are very rocky and there may be high wind there.
There are good toilets in the visitor center but unfortunately they haven't any cafeteria. Luckily they sell lemonade and chocolate at the information desk. Lapland Hotel Pallas with a restaurant is situated next door but the hotel isn't open during low season. The visitor center is achievable with a wheelchair, too.

This is a deep small lake with high cliffs surrounding it. The sight is situated close to a dirt road, only a few hundred meters walking distance from the parking lot. There is a cafe (opening hours?), outhouses and a well maintained fireplace/shelter. The upper level is accessible to everybody but to get down to the lake requires some excercise.
The place is unusual for Lapland and it has some historical value being an old sacrificial place. I recommend this for a half day trip or just a short break for somebody driving by.

Keimiötunturi Fell is one of the best lookout points in Lapland and it is suitable for families, too. It is situated off the beaten path and there aren't too many people there. However, it is accessible quite easily.
You can drive a car or take a bus (e.g. from Rovaniemi) to hotel & cottages Tunturikeimiö (aka Keimiötunturin Maja). The hiking trail starts from the courtyard of Tunturikeimiö (100 meters from the Lapp hut and then to the left). It is 2.6 kilometers from the courtyard to the peak of Keimiötunturi Fell. The path is very steep. So it takes time to hike there. However, otherwise the trail is quite easy (no rocks etc.). Take a tour on the peak and then come back the same trail. The recommendable time is 2-3 hours. The scenery is very beautiful even if you don't reach the peak.
Notice that there aren't any services in the area. There are toilets, a cafeteria and a souvenir shop in Tunturikeimiö - if it is open. You can always visit Keimiötunturi Fell (24/7) and it is free. It is situated only 3 kilometers from the historical Keimioniemi Fishing Cabins. So it is a good idea to visit both of them in the same way.
The view from the peak of Keimiötunturi Fell is extremely beautiful. The fell is situated 614 meters above sea level and 350 meters above Lake Jerisjärvi. This is one of my favorite places in Lapland.

Keimiöniemi Fishing Cabins (Keimiöniemen kalapirtit) are one of the Seven Wonders in Finland. This was a dwelling place as early as in the Stone Age. First wooden fishing cabins were built in the 16th century.
Nowadays there are still 18 fishing cabins and storehouses made of log. Most of them were built in the 19th century. Some of those preserved fishing cabins are as old as from the 18th century.
These fishing cabins are privately owned and they are still in active use. So you can't go inside these cabins. However, you may always (24/7) walk around them, on courtyards, and admire these historical buildings. And it is totally free without any admission fee. Notice that there aren't any services in the area (no toilets, no cafeteria etc).
Keimiöniemi Fishing Cabins are situated in Muonio (Keimiöniemi Peninsula), on the Lake Jerisjärvi, between Kutuniva and Rauhala. There is a small sign from the road between Kutuniva and Rauhala. By car you can drive next to these fishing cabins (less than 200 meters from the parking place). If you come by bus, you have to walk two kilometers from the nearest bus stop.
Nearest services (toilets and a cafeteria) are situated in Hotel Jeris (2.5 kilometers) and in Hotel Tunturikeimiö (aka Keimiötunturin Maja, 3 kilometers) if they are open. Remember to visit Keimiotunturi Fell in the same way, because it is situated only 3 kilometers from Keimiöniemi Fishing Cabins.
This is one of the most interesting historical sites in Lapland!
