The Town Hall of that beautiful old town which was mentioned in 975 is a little bit different. You'll find the Town Hall not on an open place or as a single house no it was built across a little creek which divide the town in upper and lower part. In the past richer people lived in the upper part and poore people lived in the lower part of the town.

The Mühlhausen city wall is important for the gates it has and the protection for cloister storage buildings it provided. A combined ticket for the city walls and museum, the Marienkirche, the Bauernkriegmuseum in the Church at the Kornmarkt and the city archives is an excellent value.

Bach was summoned here when he was only 22, and the statue outside shows a confident young man, as well he might have been, as he was already recognised as an organ expert. The organ he designed (re-built according to his instructions) can be heard today and we were fortunate in having a close-up experience of this as part of the guided walking tour round the town. The church is very beautiful and worth a visit even if you aren't interested in organs. Of all the churches inside the town wall, this is the only one which hasn't been converted into a museum or, in one case, a library.

The Marienkirche, today a museum which charges admission (buy a combined ticket for Marienkirche, city walls, Bauernkriegmuseum am Kornmarkt and the city archives!) has interesting details that shouldn't be missed. The figures above the main church entrance are mirrored (parodied) in the figures looking out of the windows in the Herrenstraße; the three quails on the spires at the northeast corner are reminiscent of the saga of slow-working stonemasons during the construction of the church itself.

Nice swimming pool. Little todler pool, with slide and cute water play mechanism. Big pool and outside pool. There is also a learning pool with warmer water. Water in the big pool is a bit cold.

This exhibit inside a former medieval church of Mühlhausen is a must, as it gives an excellent overview in English and German of the German Peasants War and the role of one of its greatest preachers during the German Reformation, Thomas Müntzer. The describes not only circumstances surrounding the German Reformation period, but also what life, politics and agriculture was like at that time. It is a great place to appreciate what central role Mühlhausen played in this dynamic period of European history.
