Don't go there, you may spoil the uniqueness of this frozen place, frozen in time, remote, not easy to reach, quiet, hot like your best childhood days, in the midst of a natural scenery you think it would not exist anymore, so sweet and rich, simple and complex, full of birds and leguans, etc etc,
If you and you and many would go there it would lose this character, yet,
Go there before that happens. It just beauty...

This beautiful yellow church down near the river is emblematic of Mompos, appearing, as a previous reviewer pointed out, in much of the publicity (lacking though it is) for this charming colonial town on the Magdalena River. It's a photogenic building, with a lovely interior, as well as a small adjacent courtyard. You can also access the belltower for a minimal fee (2.000COP) for stunning views over the town and the Magdalena River: climbing up this tower at the turn of the hour for the view and the chiming bells is one of Mompos' must-do attractions.

This old market building, on the banks of the Magdalena River, and facing a gorgeous square and church, has been redeveloped in recent years and looks beautiful now. The adjacent square now boasts a lovely little atmosphere in the evenings, with little bars and restaurants out on the plaza. You can walk up the steps to the second level of the Market building and enjoy lovely views of the river and the colonial old-town of Mompos. A simple attraction but a worthwhile sight.

This has been one of the few Cemeteries in Colombia that I've been able to visit. In my experience, Latinos tend to think that visiting a cemetery for anything other than paying your respects to a departed loved one is, well, odd. I actually felt comfortable wandering around and taking pictures. It isn't a large cemetery, but it's very picturesque and has some beautiful statues. I also liked the more humble tributes.
The chapel in the middle is home to a small group of street cats. They were hanging around the pews when I wandered in. Unless I got too close, they were pretty oblivious to my presence.

We walk pass this nondescript church each day, easy to miss as it has no plaza. One morning it was open to worshipers and we were able to see its slender red columns supporting its long hall of open roof rafters and board ceiling. The focus is on the large gold framed "Holy Christ Crucified" over the altar. Walking halfway down the hall, we noted the side cloister to the Augustinian Convent.
We returned after lunch when the light accentuated the beautiful white trim of the bright yellow hall and bell tower.

A nice church. In old style. Beautiful altar. Open most time of the day. I found a guide opposite the church in the museum. He shows you around in Mompos. Interesting.

We arrived at this special place just before sunset. It was so beautiful and special. What's more interesting is there are many cats and kitties wandering around there. Wondering if there's a non-profit organization feed them. The administrator was really nice and friendly. After staying Mompos for 2 days, I think this place is a must-see.

I personally found the church to be a 1 minute attraction. You look at it..and you are done. It's not a Cathedral to marvel at...it's just a local church with nothing special to see. Granted there isn't a lot to do in Mompos, so I guess you could walk by...without missing any of the other attractions in Mompos.
