Tereia Beach

Ideal for those who are not use to currents and just want to splash around. There is a small set of coral just off the point to the right as you are looking at the lagoon. We even saw an octopus!

Mt. Teurafaatiu

Reviewed By wx8 - Grand Rapids, Michigan

We hiked this mountain in March, one of the hottest and most humid times of the year. It was a torturous, never-ending hike but my God was it worth it. Stunning post card views like I cannot even put into words.
Advice:
Sturdy shoes, more water than you think you'll need and a reasonable amount of time to complete the round-trip journey is 2.5-4 hours for a person with a moderate fitness level.
Go early in the morning because the hill turns to mud in the rain.
I'm not sure I'd hike it on a sweltering March midday ever again. I'd gladly do a cooler August early morning.
Be VERY careful on the way down as the trail is not as obvious and it is easier to get lost. It is pure jungle off the trail.

If you are on Maupiti Island and wish to dive, this is the only diving school.
During our dive at Manta Point we saw 12 different rays and up to 7 at once around us.
It is truly a magical dive and should not be missed.
Yannick , the new owner of the centre is knowledgeable and his calm nature make diving a real stress free pleasure. During our stay we could not go diving out of the lagoon as the weather was not permitting it. This has nothing to deal with the dive operator, Maupiti pass (the only one on the island) is the most difficult pass in French Polynesia. Even if we could have managed to get through it, the swell outside the lagoon was far from driveable condition. People who are serious about diving, know that you have to respect the water. I wanted to mention this as I see people giving bad rating to diving operator due to weather! Dive operators are here to ensure your safety and if they say no because of the weather you have to trust them.

We chartered a catamaran in Raiatea and spent one night in Bora Bora in front of the yacht club.
We then sail to Maupiti and we anchor in the lagoon in front of Pension Tautiare and use the facilities of the pension. The owners are wonderful host. Be careful when the sea has high swells the pass to enter the lagoon is very dangerous.
We went to the Island and rented bikes. We tour the Island and experience the most beautiful sceneries: hills, Beaches, craters, lagoon etc
We stop at "chez Mimi" on Tere'ia Beach for lunch. It is a wonderful place next to the neighbor Island "the escape of Robinson". You can go their by foot with water up to your knee.
The island has around 1200 very friendly habitants. The bakery open from 5.00am to 8.00Am.
if you want to buy bread you better get up early.
on the way back we stop in the late morning for few hours before taking the plane in Raiatea at the "Raiatea" Lodge. They give us a room and we had lunch their. The accommodation are simple but great and the lunch was excellent.
I am not a writer and cannot find thewords to describe Maupiti. This is Paradise on Earth.
