I went yesterday,a weekday. The hydrangeas are at their peak. The ones in full sun were slightly past their peak.
The irises were completely finished.
It is off the beaten track and there weren't many people.I was the only Westerner.
I saw the hydrangeas at Hakone today and I prefer Hondoji.
There are a lot of maples so it is probably nice in autumn too.
The nearest station is Kita-Kogane (JR).

Went to Tojo House with a local Japanese friend who lives in Matsudo on a weekend morning. This house was built in 1884 by the last feudal lord of Mito province, Tokugawa Akitake (brother of the last Shogun of the Tokugawa shogunate), as a second home. Once inside (admission fee is around 200 Yen I think), you'd find a very well preserved structure and not too many tourists inside. The hallways are a bit narrow and the ceilings low, which is pretty much the way such houses were built in the past. There is one large hall with a Tatami floor that overlooks the garden - from here you enjoy a view of Tokyo! There is also a small museum next to the house. Well worth the visit and a relatively short walk (around 15-20 minutes) from Matsudo station.

My wife and I live quite close to this park and so decided to pay it a visit recently. We were both quiet surprised by it's size, lake and diverse wildlife. The park is a nice mix of picnic areas and wilder, forested sections filled with bird songs. The lake at the park's centre is home to several species of birds, both native and migratory. As a result of this, at weekends, birdwatchers and wildlife photographers are abound. We had the pleasure if seeing a Kingfisher perched on a rock during our visit.
There are BBQ pits available for booking near the north entrance and you can even order BBQ food sets (meat, vegetables etc.) at quiet reasonable prices. Bookings should be made well in advance. The park has plenty of toilet areas and benches/tables for picnics. There is also a cafe/restaurant and a park centre on the banks of the lake.
I would highly recommend this park to anyone living in the Matsudo area. My wife and I intend on visiting during each season and even having a picnic or two.

I was looking for fresh meat, fish, vegetables and fruits, and this is an awesome place with amazingly fresh all of those. Besides there are so many freshly made packed dishes, you name it... and the bakery with all kind of sweet treats... and price of a bag of 6 pieces of mochi about $US 2; while yesterday I bought 1 piece of mochi in Akihabara Station for same price of about $2. I paid by cash, so not sure if credit card accepted. The customer services is also excellent.

This festival takes places every year in early April in Matsudo city, which has many famous cherry blossom sites. In particular, Tokiwadaira Sakura-dori (meaning "cherry blossom road"), is a 3km-long cherry blossom tree-lined avenue, which plays host to Tokiwadaira Cherry Blossom Festival. The trees here are over 50 years old and the road has been selected as one of the top 100 in Japan. During the festival, stalls line the road beneath the tunnel of cherry blossoms in full bloom. The place bustles with people enjoying a host of events, including a parade of portable shrines and floats, dancing, and wind instrument Performances.
In non cherry blossom season this is just an ordinary residential road between connecting the towns of Yabashira, Tokiwadira and Goku. But it takes on a whole new significance during the cherry blossom earning it the reputation of being known throughout Japan for this phenomenon. So if you are in Japan in April or May ( make sure it is Cherry Blossom time), take the Skin Kesei line from Matsudo and make your way to Tokiwadira. Exit the station on the Seiyu Supermarker, Mcdonalds side ( turn right at the gates. The avenue is the street which is flanked by Mister Doughnut on one side and the entrance of Seiyu supermarket on the other. Enjoy
