Bluhendes Barock

Reviewed By rdubbs08 - Edmond, Oklahoma

As we planned our 2 week European adventure we came across the pumpkin festival in Ludwigsburg and immediately decided it was a must - after all, it is the WORLD's largest!
The festival is held on the grounds of Bluhendes Barock - a GORGEOUS setting for so many gourds! Even without the festival, the palace and grounds are fantastic to walk around. With the festival - you will find EVERYTHING pumpkin! There was pumpkin art, pumpkin food and pumpkin WINE!
We spent several hours enjoying the day and our 19 month old LOVED it!
This was a unique event and somewhat off the beaten path compare to the typical "must-do's" in Europe. We did not get to really explore Ludwigsburg as we were there for less than 24 hours, but the festival was the perfect way to put us in the spirit of fall!

Been many times and the castle has easy parking and is accessible with the Bus too. You can walk around the little lake or just wonder around the front of the Seeschloos Monrepos, I recommend at least walking to the left side of the lake and looking over at the ruins of a church in the center of the lake.

Marktplatz

Reviewed By Clive B - Dartford, United Kingdom

Every Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7am until 1pm, and on Saturdays from 7am to 2pm, there is a regular and quite large market held here, ideal for picking up lovely fresh fruit, vegtables, meats and cheeses. There are also a couple of flower stalls too! Just be aware that the food market moves to Rathaushof whenever an event requires the space, such as the highly popular Christmas market that runs here from mid-November. If you visit when no market or event is taking place, the Marktplatz has a nice Fountain and is surrounded by some interesting buildings, but can be quite void of atmosphere, except for the sound of the church organs, organ grinders and other visitors.

Schloss Favorite

Reviewed By dilly476 - Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom

We spent the day in Ludwigsburg primarily to visit the Residential Palace and Christmas market but saw the Favorite Palace mentioned as an add on to our Residential Palace ticket for only a Euro or so extra so decided to pay a visit while we had the chance (it is literally just across the road from the back gates of the main palace). It's a lovely palace (or elegant hunting lodge) set in large grounds with lots of deer roaming around. All tours are in German (although the very helpful girl on reception did say if we were the only people requiring a tour at that time then they would happily run it in English instead). There were quite a lot of people on the tour at that time so the tour was given in German, which i don't speak but as it was a short tour - about 20 minutes - it didn't matter, it was nice just to be able to walk round with the group and see the rooms. There was a written translation of the tour in French which we were able to read beforehand to familiarise ourselves with the basic history of the palace by way of background which was helpful.

Modemuseum im Schloss Ludwigsburg

Reviewed By Heletim - Esslingen am Neckar, Germany

The museum consists of two floors which are completely in black (ceiling, floor and walls) and less light (to preserve the colors of light sensitive clothes). But after a while we got used and didn't feel uncomfortable.
It wasn't allowed to take any pictures. And there were audio guides in German, English (British) and French available which gave a lot of background information. If you plan to listen to everything you will need more than 2 hours.
The lower floor is mainly about clothes of the baroque, and the upper one shows more modern clothes from the WW2 to the 20th century. Our main interest was the baroque clothing and in this part our expectations were completely fulfilled. Mostly dresses are shown but also other parts of the clothing like aprons, shoes, trousers, hats, underwear and bras. We got especially surprised to see even children clothing of that time.
Each clothing had German written signs indicating their country of origin (mostly European, France, UK and Germany), the time they were worn and sometimes you could see how the museum obtained them.
All in all it was wonderful. We can recommend to go with someone. It was worth paying 4€ per adult. Going on Thursday at 11 am there were only two other people.

The arena is very easy to reach with S-Bahn or Bus because it is very close to Ludwigsburg main station. It is not very big, but enough for this area. Access to your Seating block is very easy due to good organization and clear signs. There are also many people to help you if needed. Also there are good cafeteria and fans shop for normal drinks and snacks and for T-Shirts, Caps, ... of Ludwigsburg team.
I have watched Handball and Basketball matches, so it is suitable for both.

You can call me odd, but I like to wander around old Cemeteries trying to read the faded inscriptions on the tombstones and admiring the beautiful grave statues. If you like this too, you will want to visit the Alter Friedhof. It is a peaceful and quiet cemetery with many trees and ofcourse ancient graves. .

Ludwigsburg Museum

Reviewed By Stefano S - Ludwigsburg, Germany
