Miho Museum

Whether this museum is worth the drive is going to be a personal choice. The building and entry are stunning, by I.m. Pei. The collection is small but very impressive. You could see the entire museum in two hours. We did not have a choice on whether to go, as we were on a tour. But, although I appreciated the museum, I would not have chosen to spend the time traveling here. We took the golf carts up to the museum since it is a long walk, but we enjoyed the walk downhill through the tunnel on the way back. The gift stores were disappointing to us.

Mitsui Outlet Park Shiga Ryuo

The outlet mall closest to Kyoto station, with around 240 brands in one of the largest malls in the Kansai region! You can enjoy eating various dishes from famous local restaurants and rice-bowls with fresh fish on top in the food court, as well as shopping for local products; it's a one-stop shopping and fun mall! ● Stores / 240 stores approx.

If this the only brand name outlet store you have been, you may consider this place good.
It's draw is it's vicinity to Kyoto. There were lots of tourists visiting.
However, if you are to compare this outlet mall with the others, this is just alright.
I would not spend my holiday time visiting this outlet mall but if you happen to be nearby, not a bad way to kill an afternoon.

Zensuiji Temple

Reviewed By IowaSusan - Iowa

We enjoyed our visit here since it is a historic and beautiful temple (a "National Treasure" with several very fine ancient Buddha and other statues, but you have to go through with a guide and ours spoke very fast, with no time for (or acknowledgement of) our Japanese friend to help translate anything at all. for us That made us feel rather unwelcome and as a bother. There was only one other (Japanese) couple there at the same time, so it was very peaceful. No photos were allowed inside, which was a bother, though you can buy a set of 10 postcards of the statues (labeled only in Kanji, so I still don't know anything about them!) for about $10. The garden was lovely, though small.

Chojuji Temple

Omi Hino Merchant Museum

Reviewed By Susan B - Chicago, Illinois

In the 18th century, merchants from Hino pioneered new business practices, establishing "convenience store"-like shops in eastern Japan that made them wealthy. They left their wives and children behind in Hino, while they spent much of the year in the est. This home, built in the 1930s, has been converted into a museum about the merchants. It is interesting for two reasons. First, its former owner devoted careful attention to making the house a showplace and its worth seeing on that count. But the exhibits on the second floor, which tell the story of the HIno merchants is also very interesting..
The museum doesn't seem to cater to foreign visitors, but if you know Japanese it is definitely worth seeing.

This house, once the home of a ninja, is a very interesting place. Nothing prepares you for the extraordinary stuff inside, as from the outside it looks like any ordinary cottage. It's really a museum showcasing various instruments used in fighting by the ninjas. There are hidden staircases, lofts, escape routes and other surprising elements. Follow the video and the guided tour then go for the secret places. Enjoy!
