The signs say "Mirante" and a big sign at the bottom shows the construction of a viewing platform. We walked to the top, hoping to see a view but there is nowhere to see out above the trees. It looks as if the project to build a viewing platform was abandoned some years ago when only partly built.

Nice place to visit. You can enjoy some good restaurant along the road and visit some families houses. While visiting you can taste and buy some food, buy some handmade stuff and feel the families life on the country side. Indicated to the whole family, specialy with children.

National Firefighters Museum

I've been to this museum twice since I moved to Joinville. The most recent time, I visited with my dad, who used to be a volunteer firefighter himself. As is the custom, there was an on-duty firefighter who was designated to be our guide. As he did not speak English, I had to translate everything he said (apparently there is only one firefighter there who is good enough at English to lead the tour for anglophones). Anyway, this guy showed us all the old equipment and stuff in the museum. Then he took us to see the trucks and equipment that they currently use. He also showed us the sleeping areas and the kitchen/bar area. At the end, we got to meet the deputy commander and commander of the fire brigade. We also received a complementary invitation to the fireman's ball, which was to be held later in the month. All in all, a great tour.

This is certainly one of the main attractions in the city, it is a big church quite well maintained and worth visiting. Putting this church at the international level it would not be that important.

Go if you want to pay US$ 30 for an individual (and very small) portion of soggy fish, some dry white rice (no sauce? No beans?) and a coupple of tasteless baked potatoes (they say it is sauteé, but I guess they dont know what it means). The view is beautiful, but you will not be able enjoy it, once you're being ripped off. Stay away from this restaurant.

Worth a walk up the hill but take some water with you as there is nothing at the top yet, and it is quite a hike in the heat. Development of facilities at the top is still in progress and not all open yet. There is a really good walkway around the top of the hill that has a platform giving great views out over Joinville through gaps in the tree tops. There is anther platform under construction that will be even better. Then a walk back down, some more drinks and a stroll round the zoo finished off a good afternoons walk.

Museu Nacional de Imigracao e Colonizacao

This museum is well laid out and admission is free. You need to put your camera in a secure locker. The curator will explain the layout of the building and tell you a bit about the background history of German and Scandinavian settlers, mostly of Lutheran background and how they came to purchase land in this region of Brazil After that you are left to explore the upper floors on your own. Lots of early photos and interesting personal possessions are on display - especially engraved plates, mugs and other crockery. The visit should not take more than an hour and outside there is a chalet and barn recreated in the Germanic style complete with authentic carriages and farm equipment from the period. If you are in Joinville then I think a visit to this museum is worthwhile.
