Jalpan de Serra (Spanish (help·info)) is a town in Jalpan de Serra Municipality located in the north of the state of Querétaro, Mexico. It is located in the heart of an important ecological zone called the Sierra Gorda. It is also the site two of five Franciscan missions, including the first one, to have been built in the mid-18th century, and declared a World Heritage Site in 2003. The municipality is also home to a small but important indigenous group called the Pame. However, the municipality has been losing population since the mid-20th century even though recent events such as the town being named a Pueblo Mágico have worked to create a tourism industry.

You will feel as if you have stepped into the garden of Eden. The trail to the waterfall is just as beautiful as waterfall itself. The water is crystalline and the birds chirp. You can swim, camp and have a cookout near the shore. Those who swim can dive in the its deepest portion and those cannot swim and stay closer to the shore. You will not be disappointed and you will never forget it.

I've been to this land of paradise on two occasions. Most recently last September. If you enjoy walking through serene Forests along a crystal clear river flowing enticingly through boulders and gentle rapids, this is the place for you. Everyone you meet along the path is just as happy to experience this place as you are and there is a comaraderie of appreciation for this piece of heaven

Went there during a work trip and we had a great experience. The host was super friendly and stayed with us for some drinks after the visit. The walk to the Cascade is really nice (count 15-20min on way) and the water is transparent.

This beautifully decorated Mission was right in the town of Jalpan and one of the most attractive of the three Missions I saw on this trip.Built between 1751 and 1758, this Mission was the first of five missionary temples in the Sierra Gorda and was dedicated to Apostle St.James. Faced is painted in a strong saffron color and it is adorned with flowers.

Four of us visited this small archeological museum during our stay in Jalpan. It was on the attractive town square close to our hotel. We were viewing some of the photos of the many Missions in the area and in the town itself when the lights went out. They didn't come back on so we gave up seeing the remaining room. When we asked what had happened, the person at the ticket counter said the men were working - end of explanation, no pesos returned. We considered our payment a donation since we saw very little before darkness fell.
