This was an enjoyable and informative 1 - 2 hour stop to learn about Icelandic seals and their continued role in Icelandic life. A visit to the museum also provides financial support to continued research and efforts to maintain or improve the current health of the Icelandic seal population. There is an informative 10-15 minute film on continously "play" that can be watched. There are several displays of the different seal species with explanations in Icelandic and English; the amount of Reading you wish to do will establish your pace. There is a children's area with hands-on activities.
There is also a good restaurant above the museum for a bite to eat before or after your visit, but that is another review.

Horse rental, with an experienced guide.
Fanney and Logi have just what you need from days of riding in the car, hiking to see the countless fosses. A scenic route with the cool weather and friendly staff. What more can you ask?

We offer boat trips from Hvammstangi around the beautiful Miðfjorður during the summer, giving you the opportunity to watch seals in their natural environment. In summer our tours start at 10 am, 1pm and 4pm. We look forward to seeing you there!
This was a fun one and a half hour boat trip. Our guide had a great personality and I learned a lot about being a child back in the day during an Icelandic winter. He also compared the differences in snowfall and temperature since his childhood. He made climate change real. We are from Monterey California where we have a lot of harbor seals so that part was not real exciting for us. But if you have never seen harbor seals it is worth the trip. It is also a great place for birdwatching, including watching the puffins fly.

At Stora-Asgeirsa you can visit the animals, pet them and you can go horseback riding. Stora-Asgeirsa also offers accommodation. The average fee for horse riding tours is 7.900 ISK but entrance to the animal farm zoo is 500-1000 ISK.
On July 2016 we drove the ringroad around Iceland. I phoned to Stora-Asgeirsa for horse rental and got one for the next day. Frostissa was such an amazing Icelandic horse and the farms owner Magnus was the best Icelandic horsetrip guide, who can also sing very well. The farm, the lands and the animals were also lovely. I truly recommend Stora-Asgeirsa for the whole family and there is a guesthouse too

We stopped here July 23 as part of a group tour (16 people). The lunch buffet was delicious (soup and salad options). Also a chance to taste horse meat (I passed but a few in the group tried it) and we had an amazing rhubarb pie crumble. Following the lunch, we watched an Icelandic horse show. Very informative and enjoyable. After the show, we walked to and toured the stable. Having grown up on a farm, the horses in the stable seemed listless and had not been combed out. The stalls had not been mucked out. The horses that were outdoors seemed well cared for and "happy." Their "friends" in the stable did not seem "happy." We left feeling sad about this visit. I honestly cannot recommend stopping here. The owners seemed more interested in tourism than the animals.

Our company KIDKA is one of the biggest wool factorys in Iceland and its name stands for beautiful and high-quality wool products, which are fashionable, comfortable and genuine Icelandic. Our factory is situated in the beautiful Midfjördur area, in the small town Hvammstangi, halfway between Reykjavík and Akureyri, just 5 min from the main Road 1. Our forty year-old tradition in producing knitted wool goods has made us an important employer in this region. A visit in the KIDKA Wool factory provides a unique insight into the genuine Icelandic way of wool production. In our cosy factory shop you can purchase our KIDKA wool products or buy some hand-knitted wool products for a good price.
Not much to see here, and overpriced items are for sale. You don't really get to see any of the factory...hey just leave the door open so you can peer in to see one person sewing tags on items.

Verzlunin Aegissida is a clothing and souvenir shop that sells locally made products combined with products made by Icewear. Along with the clothes and souvenirs you can also find sheep head skulls from Natural Bones Design for sale.
This store has a wide range of outdoor clothes from Icewear along with some locally made souvenirs. Great location and good viewing point just outside the store out on the fjord!
