Nice walk at any time of the day. flat walk all the way around. They have a nice section where they have plant/trees from different parts of the world. Not a long walk, took about 35 minutes.

The wonderfully helpful ladies at the Huntly i-SITE are so full of information and helpful advice for all travellers and business people as well. Janelle and the other ladies are very welcoming and friendly so call in and get information first-hand on all the attractions, history and accommodation options that Huntly has to offer. I highly recommend this great centre at 156 Great South Road, Huntly, New Zealand.

The Kauri Loop Track is supposed to be a 2hr walk according to the signs, but it can be easily in half that time. This was slightly disappointing. The track is fairly steep but doable. Signs explaining the various trees growing along the track, including the Kauri, are very informative and the views from the top are worth the walk. Still, I prefer the Hakarimata Summit track, at Ngaruawahia which is a bit more challenging and longer.

This walk is a rustic kind of park where the water is clean enough for kids to swim in, dogs to drink and bathe on a hot day. It attracts water sports of various kind, is the home to Waka Ama and a professional dive school as the lake is surveyed. The lake beganas an opencast mine hence the depth and water quality. The park is quietly developing but is not over manicured. The emphasis is on native planting. The walk can be extending by taking the path behind the hill. This park is a twin gem of Huntly along with the Lake Hakanoa Walkway.

Maybe only a few of this type of museum in NZ which tell the visitors about something specifically about coal. This museum probably created in the past triggered by two major Coal Mine Disasters in this mining area, Ralph Mine and Glen Avton Mine Disasters.
The exhibits are mainly related to the Coal Mine business and equipment, but on the second floor there is another different theme exhibit, shows the miner’s household stuff some 100 years ago. Also a special room provided for video showing the related mining operations on screen.
Entry is by donation and open Sun to Fri 12pm to 4pm.

If you just want to have a swim in a heated (but not hot) pool then this is a good place to go. There are no frills - just 3 pools to cater for children, families, and serious swimmers.
But for $4 adults and $2 children with under 3 year olds free you can't really go wrong!
