I had never heard of this but it was included in my Caraltours.net day trip. It is very interesting and two pyramids have been almost completely restored. The were completely covered by sand as they are very close to the sea.

Every year my wife and I spend Peruvian summers based in Lima and every year we take an excursion to the northern coastal regions to explore the archaeological sites that form part of the Caral-Supe region, the oldest civilization of both Peru and the Americas. This year our visit centred on the Vichama Archeological Complex, just north of Huacho. A smaller site than those that form part of the Sacred City of Caral (25 kilometres to the north), Vichama is exceptionally interesting and rich. Give yourself 2-3 hours. All visitors must be accompanied by a tour guide who, when they are not guiding the few tourists who visit, are working as part of the team of archeologists and preservationists on the site. Well worth the trip if the ancient history of Peru and the Americas is of interest.
