The tourist-thronged city of 60,000 is separated from the Swedish city of Helsingborg by a 20-minute ferry ride. Just an hour by train from capital Copenhagen, Helsingor basks on Denmark's North Riviera, surrounded by golden beaches and dense forest. The UNESCO-designated, Dutch Renaissance-style Kronborg Castle boasts the impressive claim of having provided the setting for Hamlet. A charming town of half-timbered houses, cobblestone streets and castles, Helsingor is easily explored by bicycle.

Kronborg Castle towers above a very narrow promontory between the coasts of Denmark and Sweden. The renaissance castle stands majestically with its spires, towers, columns, sandstone and copper roofs. Kronborg Castle is a magnificent renaissance castle and a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. This year marks the 400th anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare. Kronborg Castle is marking this occasion by celebrating Shakespeare's immortal play Hamlet with a cocktail of theatrical adventure, drama and festivities in the magnificent halls of the castle.
I know the subject it’s not about the castle itself, but it was really helpful knowing that there were some lockers available for free (small and also for luggages) for those who are just passing by Helsingør and will keep the journey. I asked for lockers at the station and they recommended me to leave the luggage at the 7 eleven on the first floor, but they charge 50 krones per piece and there isn’t even a locker, they just keep it inside a room. I’m glad I didn’t pay for it!!
About the castle, it’s definitely worth it, specially the guided tour through the casemates. Put on a jacket and have fun with the legends of the castle :)

The Maritime Museum of Denmark is an award winning museum built by renowned architects BIG - Bjarke Ingels Group. The museum hosts spectacular, evocative and inclusive Exhibitions that actively involve a broad audience of children and adults, women and men, sea captains and laymen.
Absolute a must see if your are interested in ships and ships building. Located at the former shipyard in the town. The whole area is now a big public area, with museum, food market, cafes and bars. Nice and spacious area, lots of parking spots...MoreThank you so much for your visit and kind words. We're glad that you enjoyed the museum. Hopefully see you again sometime.

Today it has been replaced by tourists from far and away, Swedes who come for drinks and fun, long-haul tourists who visit the major attractions.Competition is tough and the many advertising signs that mispower the pedestrian street are a sign of this.

Holder Danske can be found on Kronborg Castle in the tunnels underneath. The myths say he will arise if Denmark is in trouble. Worth a look if you are visiting the castle.

The museum is really nice for those who are interested in technology. You can find anything from kitchen equipment to airplanes there! Quite a collection! Lots of information too. Some activities for families with children. Entrance 80DKK for adults. It takes a couple of hours to see everything there. There is a cafe and some food too. Good impression on the whole. A little "face lift" would be needed as it seems to be untouched for many years.

I have traveled to Europe a decent amount and like to see the churches as the US doesn't have much that is as old. This is a nice one. The inside of the church is cool. It's worth the stop. It's pretty close to Hamlet's castle.

We stopped in by chance as the architecture is such that you just have to look inside. There is a Hamlet exhibition just now 'To be or not to be' with six of seven exhibits spread over the library, really thought provoking and interesting and accessible for those who are unfamiliar with the text as well. Well worth a visit!

Magnificently preformed architecture have made use of Elsinore Ship Yards remaining dry dock. Close to the Kronborg Castle. An absolute must to visit when in Elsinore or (Copenhagen too, for that matter, less than an hour away) where you can enjoy a wide span of maritime history from the past and until today, in magnificent surroundings. The new museum has replaced the one that used to be located in the castle and is far better than the previous museum.
Swedes in Helsingborg, no longer need to complain about not having a maritime museum of their own in nearby located Helsingborg since this new attraction is only less than half an hour away. Just a short ferry trip away. Enjoy! Remember an annual ticket is very cheep. 200 DKK.

We found this gem on our way to Elsinore (just a short walk from the castle) - it is a lovely old (1430) medieval Carmelite monastery and church (we were informed that it is one of the best preserved medieval monasteries in Northern Europe. ) - look up as the ceiling is particularly beautiful.

The displays are well organized and beautifully presented. The specimens are local, not the usual seen in large aquaria. Even jaded aquarium fans will learn something new. Small area and not too overwhelming for children.
