A wonderful early church but the highlight, the rare early Christian mosaic floor, was partially hidden by a carpet down the central aisle. This may be due to preservation but it was a shame. The remainder of the floor is obscured understandably by benches and chairs.
The pulpit is impressive, but some overly heavy restoration has obscured the beauty of the church elsewhere. The mosaics by the lapidarium and the lapidarium itself, are impressive, but the latter is a bit jumbled.

Next to the impressive Basilica di Sant'Eufemia in Grado the small Basilica di Santa Maria delle Grazie is situated. Smaller and more modest than its neighbour, this Basilica also merits a visit.

We take a small boat for go to barbana island: trought the grado's laguna we attive in about 15 minute. The island is small and there is a church and a small bar/restaurant. The atmosphere is really quite: you have to visit it

Beautiful spot, day or night. During the heat of the day you will have most of the area to yourself as everyone else is either in the water or having a nap. In the evening it is the perfect spot for your passeggiata with your gelato. The Fountain in the photo is quite interesting and dynamic, creating a visual treat for both your eyes and ears. Very central location, so parking will be a problem. Try parking on the island with the bridge on Via Volta – seems to be less crowded and although you will have to walk further, it is a pleasant stroll with lots to see.

On our walk to see a fort we happened up these ruins. Preserved in situ it showed the design and placement of the former rulers encampment. It had been covered and was exposed and showed the layers of habitation for the city of Grado and the uses of the harbor and a succession of forts and religious buildings that have inhabited the site. Truly eye opening to see the historic complexity that has resulted into the lovely island resort that we enjoyed on our stay.

One of the most beautiful bicycle routes of Europe. You'll ride your bike from the Alps to the Adriatic sea.
The Ciclovia Alpe Adria [Alps to Adriatic bike route], is a bikepath that connects the Austrian Alps with the Adriatic Sea, built on the roadbed of the former Habsburg [Austrian] Tarvisio-Ljubjana railroad line. We used Tarvisio, Italy as a starting point and biked one day towards Slovenian border, and the next day to Chiusaforte via Pontebba.
Before the Slovenian border it is worth visiting the Fusine Lakes, an amazing crystallclear skyblue tarn. After the border - marked with stones - the path descends towards Kranjska Gora, a beautiful Slovene village in the middle of a valley that in the winter transforms into the principal ski destination of Slovenia. After Kranjska Gora the bike path continues to Mojstrana and Jesenice, ultimately ends at the Vintgar canyon and waterfall.
The next day we travelled from Tarvisio to Chiusaforte on the Italian side of the old railroad colored by viaducts, torrents, tunnels, rivers, metal Bridges of the former railroad, and cute little villages where you can have a latte and enjoy the panoramic view.
Given that the bikepath has only a few easy climbs and a lot more descends, it's a very enjoyable and great pleasure outdoor activity for all ages.

The first sight visitors get of Grado is its shiny lagoon. The town with its palaces, houses, pavements and harbour seems to be part of the waters lightness. The massive stones of churches reflect the inner strength of Grado citizens, Mountains are not very far, but there is a gentleness an easy way to meet foreigners, which, again, seems inspired by the rhythm of waves lapping its Beaches.
