Immaculate church on top of the hill. Has been visited by Pope Benedict in 2006. Pleasant walk up the cobblestone walkways. Literature available in the church.

We love to stop by for dinner even time we are in the Munich area.. Excellent traditional Bavarian menu, great beer. Love the outside beer garden as well as the inside rooms. Efficient staff.

Marienplatz with Mariensäule ColumnThe Baroque Column of Mary (1674)is the centre of Marienplatz square, the bustling heart of the city and starting-point for all walks throughthe Old Quarter.
We had an 8-hour layover in Munich and didn't want to spend that long just sitting around the airport. Rather than go all the way into Munich, we headed to Freising instead. Using the 635 bus, it took 15 minutes or so to get to the Fresing from the airport. It was lightly raining and Sunday morning, so many places were closed, but the town was really pretty. There were some nice trails following canals through town and many beautiful old buildings, churches, and cobblestone streets. We headed over to Marienplatz, the main square in town and they were having a Hops Festival! People in traditional clothing were dancing to polka music up on the stage and a number of vendors set up around the square. So even with much closed in town, we had the chance to eat some German food, do a little shopping, and most importantly, drink good German beer! Freising makes a great spot to get away from the airport for a couple hours and the Marienplatz is a nice place walk around or sit and enjoy the view away from the airport.

Everyone from Munich goes South to the Lakes during the holidays, we went North. Hohenkammer, village and castle, is about 35 km away from Munich and in rural surroundings presents itself as a Convention centre and farm which welcomes day guests in its two restaurants. During the week and for lunch the buffet style "Kantine" and at night the "Restaurant". Reservations necessary. The quality of the food is quite excellent at both venues. The castle itself has a remarkable interior courtyard with renaissance arcades but is otherwise out of bounds for non-participants of conventions.

this little restaurant is always busy, and no wonder, with the great wine selection (and very reasonable prices), great service and tastey homemade like food (vegan/ vegetarian) ! When the weather is nice, you can sit in the courtyard, otherwise inside is an option, simply decorated but everything is done with tlc! Gotta love it!

The whitewashed church survived the war but it is rather bland inside. It seems active as many locals came in to make prayerful visits. It also has am impressive organ - thought for concert season.
