We got to Khara Khoto in late afternoon, after about half an hour drive from Ejina Qi. Although they almost completed a nice entrance to the area, you still have some drive until you get close to the ruins... In the middle of nowhere, surrounded by the desert to which the city surrounded many centuries ago.... Not much left, a little bit of the outer walls with some observation towers on one corner, a little of the Buddhist temple and not much else... The sun was going down, there was hardly anybody else around and if you looked at the ruins, the emptiness around them and listen real carefully, you may hear the hoards of the Great Khan getting close to the city ....

This is truly one of the saddest tourist attractions ever. I went there during Mid-Autumn festival when it was overrun with tourists. While the dead trees must have been stunningly beautiful at one time, people standing and sitting on them are quickly destroying something precious. Everyone has to get a picture of him or herself on the trees. People pick up branches and carry them off. Completely distressing.

The Jiuquan Satellite Launch Base is the main Chinese base for testing and launching long range carrier rockets, ballistic missiles, various test satellites in low and medium orbit, application satellites, manned spacecraft and rocket missiles, and also includes the tasks of salvage, emergency life-saving for astronauts, etc. This base is located in the Gobi desert of Inner Mongolia.
Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center "Ask Tiange" is where astronauts lived before they went into space. According to the narrator, the protection of astronauts is no less than that of the giant panda. The average person should keep at least three metres away from an astronaut.
My uploaded photos include the launch tower, and satellite assembly towers. Typically, a rocket is assembled with the satellite and is transferred vertically to the launch tower.

It only got 10 to 15 days to visit E Ji Na Qi when the leaves of Populus euphratica turning yellow from the end of September to the beginning of October. On the early morning beside the river, you could take the most beautiful photographs.
There was also an ancient city in the desert outside E Ji Na Qi town, named Heichengzi, once a Mongolian city abandoned in the history.
