This was another highlight of our trip in Eisenach. We had no problem finding a parking spot at the side of the road. Coming from the town, the Drachenschlucht is on the right. Right before the welcome sign “Drachenschlucht” is a small lake covered with moss. The water looks green.
The path is easy to walk on, even for kids. It’s only 3 kilometers long. The best part of this walk is when we are surrounded by high mossy rocks dripping with water. Underneath our feet, we can see the thunderous water flowing by. There were two spots like that and it felt like an adventure. Kids loved it to the brim as well!
Only at the very end of this trail it’s a bit steep. We certainly enjoyed this trek in nature!

This imposing medieval fortress, which stands atop a mountain on the outskirts of Eisenach, is best known as the place where Martin Luther sought refuge following his excommunication in 1521 and serves as one of Germany's most prolific national symbols.
This is a mountain strong hold and arriving there will make you understand why it was so defensible. There is a shuttle from the parking lot for 2 euros. The castle provides portable devices to listen to a tour in several languages. Very informative about both Luther and the culture. They have a specially marked tour for children. Very nice gift shop at the end. You could spend a whole day here.

Guided tours are offered of the small home in which Johann Sebastian Bach was born in 1685.
Very nice historical house with some good historical sceneries. Nice collection of musical instruments and literature, great discovery of the genius of Bach.

This museum provides a nice overview of the cars made in Eisenach. This museum is located on the original plant's site. There are not many buildings left unfortunately. Surprisingly this is were BMW started.
We enjoyed the exhibits that provided also insights into cars and car manufacturing in the DDR era. Although it is not very big we spent approximately 1.5 hours here. Note: if you want to take pictures there is a 1 Euro extra charge for that.

This medieval church has served as the site of sermons given by Martin Luther and as the place of baptism for Johann Sebastian Bach.
Lots of church history here. The Reformation probably had its beginnings here because Luther worshiped here as a student. This church was the Bach family church as well, and the font is still here. We were too early for an organ practice session, but enjoyed the beauty and history of this still active church, that's a short walk from Lutherhaus.

This beautiful half timbered house was one of the many homes Luther lived in during his life. It was his student home. It is downtown and parking is difficult. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The house is full of interactive exhibits and interesting items. A must see on the Luther trail through this part of Germany. I think admission is 8 Euros.

The monument has been build in 1902 and offers great views towards Eisenach and the Wartburg. In addition you can hike up there and of course also around in the Forests with is spectacular during fall.
The site is important for the Burschenschaft (student fraternity) these students were the first fighting for a German republic in 1948/49 but the revolution failed at this time but still laid the foundation for the future repuclic (Weimarer republic was created in 1919).
Nice to see if you in or around Eisenach

Even if this Scenic view is not that famous, it is definitely worth a visit. Can be compared when you walk up to the castle with a 10-15 min detour. Different ways up to the rock, the most direct includes a very little of climbing. Unfortunately there is meanwhile some waste around this place.
