Most beautiful geographical location in center northeast Mexico I have ever experienced
Still unspoiled and very well kept.
People are amazing and the food...you just can’t have enough!
Do not look any further, go with the huasteca.com where even the dog has fun! (I did see couple of them rafting!)
Great people and well organized tours.
All you need is yourself with a good attitude and expect to have a just good ol’ time.
Never felt unsafe during our week there.
José Luis (el Güero) and Vivian took the gold, the test of the guides including the office staff was wonderful.
And if you have time in the afternoon visit laca-laca restaurant, you will be glad you did.

You cannot describe this place, you need to come and experience this place. It's beyond words..
1)cascade de tamul - we went to see tamul first.. we started from SLP at around 5:30.. we reached tamul at 9:30 with one coffee break.. we hired a boat at tanchachin.. as we were traveling in a group of 19 with young and adults.. we hired a whole boat for ourselves.. we started rafting at around 10:45. We reached to tamul waterfall at around 12:30 .. the experience was out of this world.. adventurous and funny too. because whenever you pass by another boat, the riders will throw water on you with the help of paddles and bottles and vice a versa .. after viewing the waterfall, we started paddling back to the base where we started.. it took us around one hour to reach.. had amazing vegetarian food at the base (we are vegetarian, it matters a lot to us) then we started for tamasopa .
2)tamasopa: its on the way back from cascade de tamul to SLP.. in between.
Tamasopa is like a village town, there are 4 spots to see at tamasopa.. we were able to cover two.. puente de dios and poza azul. Puente de dios is a heaven who love to swim.. its waterfall covered with plantation n rocks.. and its 20 m deep..beautiful.. we swimmed, dived and enjoyed nature thoroughly..
we completed this two spots in one day, it's manageable if you are good at keeping timings..

I can't recommend this place enough! It is so beautiful and there's plenty of fun to be had in the water. We caught a local Vencedor bus out from Ciudad Valles for less than 20 pesos and the driver dropped us right by the staircase that winds down to the cascadas. We went on a Saturday so it was busy but so much fun. You can rent life jackets if required, there's toilets, changing rooms, snack and beer stalls and local guys willing to paddle you right up to the cascadas in little boats if you prefer not to get wet. There's so much fun to be had in the water. The mesmerising green water is lovely to swim in and the current isn't too strong. You can climb up and stand under the smaller cascadas on the river side for an amazing natural shoulder massage. The main falls are great to jump off if you can clamber up either side. The riverside can get a bit muddy if it's busy and the changing rooms are a bit grim but otherwise this is a total winner and a must do if you're in the area. Getting back to Valles is super easy either via the bus or the regular 25 peso colectivo vans. Just flag either down on the roadside. Enjoy!

We had the pleasure of meeting Martha from MS Xpedicions upon arrival in Ciudad Valles from Xilitla, who we found extremely warm, friendly and enthusiastic about showing us her surrounding areas in the Huastecas, a place she has a lot of knowledge about and a passion for! We had 2 fabulous days with her, she showed us some amazing geological sites, natural hot Springs, took us to some of her little favourite spots even, including a little panaderia off the main rd towards Xilitla, the cinnamon cakes were so delicious. Martha certainly went out of her way to share with us her paradise.
On our 2nd day we set off again to see the Ceremonial de Tamaletom with the amazing spinning voladores, also spent some time in the village chatting to the locals and eating tasty local treats...This is a tour not to be missed!!!
In the afternoon we shared the day with Martin, who drove us to see the cascades El Micos, El Minas Viejas y El Salto, chatting on the way about local lifestyle and affairs and having a laugh here and there. Martin was such a nice guy and a gentleman at that !!
The beauty of Huasteca is nothing short of stunning and we will be returning very soon and will be doing our tours with MS Xpediciones again!!
Viva Mexico!!

Taninul isn´t actually in Ciudad Valles, it´s about a 30 minute drive away. We were staying at Hotel Aventura Huasteca and the guide from our rappelling tour recommend that we go and enjoy the temazcal at the resort that night. For those of you that don´t know what that is it´s kinda like a mud-like igloo where they have sauna rocks inside with herbs and flowers in with the rocks. But before you go in you cover yourself in mud, have a little spiritual ceremony (I am not religious but practice yoga, I find it similar to yoga meditation) and then you wash off the mud in the natural thermal spring.
It was a pretty amazing experience if you like this type of thing. Many of my friends have done temazcales but I had always been pretty unsure of them. When you are in the igloo you give thanks to what you have, you apologize to the people and things you have hurt, you wish for anything and you ask forgiveness for your regrets all the while they add more rocks and make the hut hotter.
after the ceremony they dowse you in cool water and lay you down and wrap you up in warm blackets and finish off at the end with a special tea with a spoon of honey.
All for only 150 pesos per peson!! Which is about 12usd each.
I loved it and the grounds of the resort look really nice.. the natural pool does look a little scummy though but it´s natural so what can you do. We might consider staying there next time we go back though as they have rock climbing there.
Try to avoid weekends and national holidays to visit there. We visited there during the Sept. 15th weekend and the place was packed. The temazcal started at 7pm I think but arrive an hour early and they let you enjoy the pools.

We stopped at Ciudad Valles as a layover for 9 hours. We were not sure where to go. We took a pesera (local bus) to the "centro". There we found their market area which was full of things to see and do. We had lunch at Don Lenchos Taqueria within the market. So yummmmy!!! It has extremely limited Seating but worth the wait and the cramped area. We also saw some live dancers which was gorgeous to watch. We then walked a couple of blocks to the plaza location which is indicated here. There was music on the loud speaker, a mix of American and Mexican music. We sat on the benches and enjoyed the scenery. We then walked down to the riverside and enjoyed some quiet time there. There is a lot to look at in terms of trinklets and fun food to enjoy. We felt very safe. Of course take precautions, as you would anywhere you travel. Great time!
