Kurumayama-kogen Highland Visit Mount Kurumayama summit where the breathtaking views of Japan’s finest Mountains awaits you, from the Yatsugatake Mountains and Mount Fuji to the Southern, Central, and Northern Alps.
At first, we thought the fee to use the ski lift up to the top, was a little steep (1600 yen return) but, changed our minds having finally reached the very top. The lift seats 3 comfortably. It was a longer journey than expected, too. There aren't any toilets at the summit, but at the second stage, where you change ski lifts, there are - but, expect to line up for the ladies ... as everyone thinks the same thing - better to be safe than sorry. There is also a cafe there ... but, nothing at the top.
We had perfect blue skies and when we reached the summit, we were spoilt with a magnificent 360 degrees view and could even see Mt. Fuji, faintly but clearly in the distance.
If we had more time and it was summer (October is a little chilly and everything is a bit dry - not green) a walk around the main area would be nice. It looked great for trekking - an easy course ... a sunrise must be something to see, as well.
It might also be good to walk all the way back down the hill, if you didn't want to spend so much money for the lift and had time.
We will definitely come back in summer, for that ...

Superb view of the Japan Alps! The northern Yatsugatake ropeway ranges between Kita Yokodake and Mt.Yatsugatake located at the northern tip of Yatsugatake, and runs about 466 m in height from the mountain foot station (altitude 1,771 m) to the summit station (2,237 m) in about 7 minutes . Meanwhile, a sky trip overlooking the ever-changing mountain landscape in front of you is a powerful full mark
This ropeway gondola costs 900yen single trip, 1800yen for return (there are multiple or oneday tickets as well), and it runs every 20 min. (This ropeway stops operation from 2nd of April - 27 April for checkups.)
Maybe two different reasons to take this gondola in winter season. Skiing / snowboarding or hiking. I took this gondola to climb Mt. Kita Yokodake.
It is 7min ride, but you can enjoy awesome view of North, Central, and South Alps, and Mt. Tateshina.
You can go to 2237m high effortless using this ropeway, and start climbing Mt.Kita yokodake. It takes about 1hour and half to climb the mountain. In winter, you need crampons and proper winter hiking wears.
I rented snowshoes (2000yen) before I get on the ropeway, and enjoyed snowshoeing as well.
It is not cheap, but not that expensive compared to similar ropeways.

If you love to spend some time in peace, this is the place. There's not much "attraction", just this smallish, pretty lake, the trees, quiet... Great place to just stop, admire the view and perhaps have a picnic or do some sketching or photo-taking.

If it experienced recent rainfall, you can see a waterfall somewhat more vigorous than the name "otome" (a virgin) suggests! You can just go see this waterfall, or take a walk along the gorge. Either way, it is very refreshing and I highly recommend it!

If you go in the winter, make sure to check the weather. This area tends to get some pretty deep snow. But there are some classy ryokans here that are worth the trip.

Many clay objects made here 2,000-4,000 years ago are exhibited in this small museum. Two magical and abstract clay figures, Venus in JYOUMON period and Goddess with mask, are Japanese national treasures. If you see them, you may touch Japanese wild sprite behind pure arts like UKIYO-E in Japan.
The museum is far from Tokyo and in an inconvenient location but this district near it has various historical tourist spots including SUWA shrine. You may be able to make a optional travel plan to visit the impressive spots in the district.

Good places to enjoy snow and ski while visiting Tokyo. Approximately 2,5 hours from Shinjuku station to Chino station by express train. There is a shuttle bus to pickup as well.

Lake Shirakaba-ko is an artificial lake that is up to 9 meters (30 ft.) deep and 1,416 meters (4,645 ft.) above sea level.
So many activities for families to enjoy, and year-round, too. Ike-no-taira hotel's family-friendly outdoor onsen bath is supposedly the largest in Nagano.
