The site of the 2013 World Games, Cali is the sporting epicenter of Colombia. Pristine golf courses and countless opportunities for adventure sports in local parks, mountains and deserts are a big draw. Cultural attractions in Cali reflect the area’s rich indigenous history and European influence. Visit an archaeological park to experience tombs, ruins and cave paintings, or celebrate with the locals at a cultural festival. Show off your salsa in a lively nightclub, then spend the next morning recovering with an aromatic cup of that famous Colombian coffee.

More than 3500 models, many in realistic dioramas and the largest collection of airline flatware. There is also a collection of 30 uniforms and flying suits, both military and civilian.

This place has been well reviewed and I visited twice with guests. Entrance fee is reasonable and includes a personal tour through the numerous hanging plants, the butterfly breeding area and the mariposario. The owners bought this land about 20 years ago to preserve the land and show off the beauty of the region.
They have built a large butterfly house, collect the eggs and develop the caterpillars. They have about 15 local varieties and on the tour show you eggs, caterpillars, the food they eat and then the butterflies.
The tour, which lasts about 1.5 hours ends on a huge relief map of Colombia built but the side of the mountain with cement colored for the different regions of Colombia with wildlife statues and regional plants. Really impressive structure.
They started by giving tours to students but now have opened to the public. They also sell butterfly wing earrings that are inexpensive and really beautiful.
They do a lot of conservation work in the area as well. Worth a visit and great to couple with a visit to Cristo Rey, about 5 minutes up the road.

We create unforgettable experiences to share our passion for life.
We went there on a crowded day- the parking and entrance were a bit cumbersome but we managed to get in. The zoo has its flow and it’s well organized. It was clean and animals seem to be well kept. It’s a must on Cali for young and older children

Caliwood Cinema Museum its located in Cali, Colombia. The newly opened museum is currently the only cinema museum in the country preserving the largest collection of theatre projectors, movie cameras, photo cameras, posters, and memorabilia.
This small museum has an incredible selection of cameras and cinematic equipment. It made a nice change from the usual museums housing archaeological or religious artefacts, and my favourite part was watching a few original short films and cartoons. The owner and staff are lovely, and the audioguide is available in English or Spanish. A nice way to spend an hour and walkable from San Antonio.

I recommend taking a day trip to the Sugar Cane Museum near Palmira. About 45 minutes northeast from from Cali. The hour long tour fits in well with a trip to nearby Buga and the Isaacs Hacienda. The Museum tour is in Spanish so you may need a translator if you struggle with Spanish. But, you can appreciate the historical progression of sugar cane mills over the centuries, as well as the natural botanical Gardens.

This is a nice older neighborhood that has many small shops, cafe's, and restaurants, including high end ones. The area appeared to me to be getting gentrified, and older places are being bought up and refurbished , with high end, expensive stores coming in; which negates the charm for me. At night, we were advised to take a taxi and not walk to get back tot he Intercontinental Hotel which is close by.

Bordering the river that runs through Cali is an interesting park with about 25+ cat sculptures in which well known Columbian artists were given the chance to design their own version of artwork on the cat sculptures. Very interesting and this helped to gentrify this area from once 10+ years ago had been drug area. Beautiful area now of stylish restaurants and apartment buildings surrounding the Cali central river park.

This is a popular weekend destination for middle to lower class families. The river is very shallow and on holiday weekends it is wall to wall people with all the attendant trash. Parking is nearly impossible and traffic on those weekends is horrendous.

This is a beautiful and humble colonial church on a hillside in the middle Of a very popular neighborhood in Cali called Sam Antonio. The colored houses contrast this white church very nicely. At night the lighting at this time of year is a sight to see , sit down in park and enjoy.
