Most interesting thing to me about our visit was that this was where the reasonably famous High Court judge Sir Isaac Isaacs started out in the law.At the court house there are voices projected as if during some amazing court cases.Ned Kelly features large. And amazingly there is one witness stand for Christians and one for non Christians.Well worth a visit

Plenty to see including an extremely realistic streetscape and a selection of stuffed native animals including a rare stuffed Tasmanian Tiger. A low fee ( discount for concessions) gives access to various buildings including an old courthouse and gaol) Ticket lady was friendly and helpful too.

Sealed road all the way in and plenty of parking. Minor amount of walking to the falls (not even 100m) and one of the paths to the lookout would be wheelchair accessible. You could get right down to the pools at the top of the falls which would be lovely on a hot day. Bit of rock scrambling required. We spent about 30mins here.

What an absolute gem of a place! We loved it so much we booked for a second dinner later in our trip. Great atmosphere, friendly staff and the beer is wonderful with great variety. Had possibly the spiciest pepperoni pizza ever but so delicious! Would give it 6 stars if I could.

This place was a bit of a surprise. For a gold coin donation you can get a pamphlet which is a self guided tour of some of the significant and historical graves. While it might not sound too exciting it was a great way to learn more about the history of Beechworth/Australia during the gold rushes and what some of the people went through. Thoroughly recommend it.

Amulet Vineyard produces the most diverse range of wines made by a family-owned vineyard in Beechworth. Taste Italian and French varieties at the modern cellar door, with sweeping views through Valleys in all directions. It’s also the home of Beechworth Cider, made on site with fresh locally grown apples. The Café is open for weekend lunches featuring local produce, (other times with 24hrs notice). Bus and group bookings welcome by appointment.
Food was excellent and very well priced. 4 mains + drinks came to approx $150. We were impressed with how reasonable this was. Views were stunning. Also conveniently located to indigo winery, so we combined a stop in at both places. The wine was nice...MoreHi Henryhotpants (great name by the way), Thank you for your review, we are really proud of what the chef is producing and to hear you express your positive thoughts is greatly appreciated. We sincerely look forward to your next visit. Sue.

For the cost of a voluntary donation one can visit and also get a detailed commentary from the guide at this most interesting venue.Perhaps the highlight is being able to send a telegram via Morse Code(admittedly with the telegram ultimately being posted).Well worth a visit

Just happened to arrive at the gaol 10 mins before a scheduled tour, so we bought our ticket and tagged along. Darren, our guide, was very informative about the place and made great comparisons to todays prisons. I would HATE to have been incarcerated in such a place, and to think it only closed in 2004. The tour took just over the hour, but so worth it. We learnt so much about the gaol and the system it was part of.
I would not recommend this tour for younger children - the ones on ours were bored after about 30 mins and started to disrupt the rest of the tour. Darren did a wonderful job trying to engage everyone of varying ages on the tour - and took into consideration the very hot weather.
And the coffee trailer out the front - awesome coffee!
If in Beechworth or the surrounding area, we would definitely recommend this.

The historical precinct has so much to look at in a small area. You can purchase a combined ticket for the Burke Museum, Kelly Vault and the Courthouse at the visitor information centre.
The telegraph station has some good displays about old communication techniques including morse code and there is also a model railway display of Beechworth.
The Historic Courthouse is where Ned Kelly (and also his mother) had trials. It is very well preserved and it has an audio display in the main court room and it has lots of information on the walls about the people who had trials there. There is also a library with some extremely old law books in there.
The Kelly vault was excellent, it had lots of information regarding Ned Kelly and the Kelly gang, it has copies of their armour and it also has the Jerilderie letter written by Ned and Joe Byrne on the wall. It also has his gun 'betty' and his death mask.
The Burke museum has lots of artefacts related to the history of the area. There is a gold display, taxidermied animals, a Beechworth street scape and Burke memorabilia.
The historic precinct is a must if you a visiting Beechworth.

The staff member was really helpful and went out of her way to make sure I knew about all the quirky places in Beechworth. She provided me with maps and brochures even though it was closing time.
I explored the asylum that evening as recommended and it was very worthwhile
