Just the most lovely old tower in a gorgeous little square. Looking at the old ruins under glass is such a great idea. The tower wasn't open when we went nor was there any indication of opening times but we shall go back now we know that it does open!

We were greeted by some really helpful staff that showed us around their exhibits. We then proceeded to the Planetarium's dome, for a lesson in constellations that can be seen on a clear night. As an added bonus, they speak English.
Overall, it was a great experience that I am bound to repeat in the near future!

Pretty exy for locals this upmarket mall. Some typical chain type fashion stores and a Cora supermarket (French). Also cinemas. Looks like they stopped charging for parking underneath, which is a plus.

The place right outside Baia Mare, on the road connecting to Satu Mare. It's fairly easy to find and big enough not to be missed. This complex was extended twice in its three years of life and now it contains:
Indoor:
25 meters long swimming pool (27-29 degrees C, 1,5 meters deep, 6 lanes)
12 meters fun pool with hotter water, bubbles and water massage installations
kids pool
Outdoor
2 pools, one for sunbathing, one almost complete with slides
Gym, well equipped, Squash room, Cycling room, Salt walls room, aerobic room
Spa
This is a very nice place, with wet and dry sauna, emotional showers, water foot massage chairs, salty water pool, sweet water jacuzzi, hammam, well maintained and with a nice atmosphere.
Bar
Where you can have salads or drinks
Price of admission is 20 - 35 RON depending of your time of arrival and day of the week but it's well worth it. I strongly recommend you to there shortly past 8 am to have the whole place to yourself. It's a very pleasant feeling. This is one of the best fitness/spa centers in Transylvania and what it offers for what they charge is a lot. Very strong value here. The staff was very polite and helpful for us, first time visitors.

Count Teleki was a close friend of many of the leading creative lights of his time all over Europe, with the composer Franz Liszt and the great romantic poet Sandor Petofi in particular spending a considerable amount of time at Castle Teleki. Petofi had his honeymoon there.
The castle is what we would call a country mansion, with a park and another building on one side that is now a school but was once where the servants slept.
Inside a small museum is being set up, dedicated to the memory of Sandor Petofi, with furniture of the period (including the bed where the poet slept), books, pictures and so on. Fascinating to someone with a Literary interest in Petofi; perhaps interesting to others too, in that these things evoke a time so different to today.
Everyone can appreciate the park, though. The sense of deep peace under the ancient oak trees, the glorious view from the balcony over to the Mountains....
If you don't speak Romanian or Hungarian, email Coltau Rural Tourism before you go and they'll organise a guide to show you round. They can also organise spotlessly clean homestay rooms in the village if you want, with people that really do treat you as one of the family.
No problem getting there. It's only a few kilometres outside Baia Mare and there are buses. I got a taxi.
