Alessandria [alesˈsandrja] listen (help·info) (Piedmontese: Lissandria) is a city and comune in Piedmont, Italy, and the capital of the Province of Alessandria. The city is sited on the alluvial plain between the Tanaro and the Bormida rivers, about 90 kilometres (56 miles) southeast of Turin.

We stopped in Alessandria for the first time as we'd driven past and seen the advertised star shaped Cittadella many times whilst passing on the motorway. We were the only visitors and were able to wander around the outside of the buildings at leisure. This was in the morning and the only guided tours were held after four in the afternoon. The area covered by the barracks was vast and the buildings were in various stages of decay. Some were in the process of restoration but it was obvious that not much money had been spent on this. There were plaques giving a glimpse of the importance of the citadella during the first and second world wars. It would be a very interesting visit for a military historian. There was a childrens playground and lots of space/parking. Some attempt had been made to create a nature trail.

Si strategica in quantofuori dal caos, se ci si ingegna sui trova facilmente, poi coi navigatori ...ma in Compenso, mangi bene tanto, e non parliamo solo di fritto misto alla piemontese...antipastini e sopratutto buon vino fruttato, Sincero ed anche di pronta beva...Ottima la qualita' in zona Meravigliosa.

The museum is located in the old Borsalino factory. The museum's heart is the display of thousands of hats in pristine condition, from the factory's beginnings in 1857. Hats for men, women, and even some hats for catholic clergy are displayed. You can get a recorded guide in English or other languages. The hats are all from the sample rooms of the factory, over the years, and are absolutely beautiful. Also included is a video about the Borsalino factory, and its influence on Italian style. Makes you want to wear a classic hat all the time, like my father used to do. A word of caution, however. The museum is open only at certain times, usually Saturday and Sunday from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm. The church of St. Peter and St. Mark, which is the Cathedral of Alessandria, a church from the historical and artistic value incalculable, built around the year 1100 AD and completely destroyed during the Napoleonic invasion by Napoleon and later rebuilt fwew meters away from the original location, right where the church stands today. Remodeled several times over the centuries, today the Cathedral itself with its high bell tower that stands over the city is a beautiful example of neo-classical and well a bit different from what it was in the past, before the destruction of a work of Gothic style. Nice yard and the facade of the Cathedral, the interior is huge and rich in works of art. The dome and the bell tower are the outstanding highlights of the complex. Absolutely a must-see.

Bello ed elegante, si certo.....,ma questo può bastare ? Io non sono particolarmente esigente ma.... bar come questo ce ne sono altri mille....e con qualità al pari o anche superiore..... eppure ....c'è sempre la ressa. Sarà perchè gli Alessandrini sono un po' dei caproni che dove va uno vanno tutti ? Ora è di moda. .....vedremo con il tempo....

La Casaccia: wine farm. We produce and directly sell organic wines such us Chardonnay, Grignolino, Freisa, Barbera e Spumante. We organize guided tours in the winery (old cellar carved underground) and wine tasting combined with local food, booking request. We organize events- cerimonies, Concerts, parties, lunches and wine dinners. Overnight staying is possible with b&b accomodation.

What a wonderful stay at La Casaccia we had. The hospitality and the food and wine were outstanding.
Marguerita gave us a very interesting and informative tour of the wine cellars followed by tastings of some of the wine accompanied by local cheeses and hams. Included in this we saw the Infernot an ancient hand hewn, from rock, cellar part of a world heritage site .
Cella Monte is a lovely village and La Casaccia is a great base for exploring the surrounding countryside.

Not actually the city's top attraction. This building is house of prefecture police know it's still in use but I think is not even possible to visit the inside. It's a good example of baroque style, centuries back it was under the French jurisdiction and passed them to the Savoy Family. Just stand at the front door to admire it for few minutes.

Not really special. Only one more old Italian church with a really poor surrounding of few buildings and construction site in Alessandria. I'd not really worth to visit.
