At Christmastime, the entire city of Valkenburg seems to sparkle with festive light. The annual underground Christmas market is a hallmark of the city, lasting from mid-November through December 23. It’s held in the Velvet Caves, a maze of 12th-century passageways that lies beneath the remains of Valkenburg’s hilltop castle. The caves and castle draw visitors year-round. Valkenburg is a biking city. It's a great base for cycling tours and is a two-time stage finish site for the Tour de France.

Great service. Great ribs forget dessert. Fabulous town fabulous restaurant and really really great ribs. We've never been to Valkenburg before but i can't recommend it highly enough. They have streets of restaurants with a fantastic atmosphere and really nice people. We'll be back.

We visited Valkenberg for the Christmas markets but seemed to have spent most of our time sitting outside this restaurant just chilling and watching the world go by.
The staff are really friendly and although certain foods were not on the menu it wasn't too much trouble to serve us.
Such a lovely place.

TRenowned for exceptional quality and outstanding service, Restaurant Château St. Gerlach’s à la carte menu is masterfully designed to delight both the eyes and palate. Occupying three of the Château’s traditional reception rooms, the restaurant’s visually impressive dishes are inspired by the opulent furnishings and elaborate wall and ceiling frescoes. Guided by French classics, Chef de Cuisine Guido Le Bron de Vexela and his team, use innovative techniques and modern influences to showcase the very best fresh, organic products derived from the estate Gardens and local countryside.
We came to this restaurant during our stay at this lovely hotel. Food and wines were all good, service was very friendly. It was a great evening for us and worth again a visit.

Welcome! Our kitchen can be characterized as 'real cooking' according to the spirit of the Slow Food movement. Bread, cookies and everything inbetween is homemade with regional and seasonal ingredients. The atmosphere is friendly, a relaxed 'living room' where socializing just happens, making friends, even if it's just for one evening. According to our guests "de rijke jansen" is a unique experience in Valkenburg, best to be checked by yourself. it is best to make Reservations in time.
We were in Valkenburg for a weekend in order to attend the Andre Rieu concert. While we were walking around we saw the Wijncafe. Not knowing what to expect we went in and talked to the owner who explained what the cafe was all about. We were interested so arranged to go that evening. We were really pleased with everything about the whole evening, really nice food, excellent wine, pleasant surroundings, very friendly. We are going back in June and will be looking to eat there again.

Whilst walking through the main street of Valkenburg on a cold November day we noticed the warm & cosy looking Terrace of restaurant Latinos. We took a seat under a blazing Terrace heater with a nice view overlooking the busy street and a gas-fired burner.
We meant to stay for just the one beer but ended up staying for many more! The service was friendly and fast and the prices were not too expensive. We enjoyed it so much that we decided to come back that same evening for dinner - we would not be disappointed...
Upon arriving we were noticed the restaurant was full and as we hadn't booked a table we thought we might not get in. Luckily there was one table free by the entrance which was perhaps overlooked by other guests (TIP!) as being too close to the door, but it looked good to us and so we sat down. Actually it was a great place to sit, lots of movement around us and things to see whilst waiting for food and no cold draught from the door which was doubly protected from any winds from outside, by being what looked like an old Prison door.
My partner loves Oysters and so we ordered a plate of 6 to start. Normally I eat only 1, just for the show, as I don't care for the taste, but this time the Oysters were served with finely chopped Onions, Lemon Pieces and a Soy Sauce. Needless to say I found the taste combination delicious and ended up eating 3 of them, much to the dismay of my partner!
For the main course we went for the Taps For Two. After a short wait the waiter arrived with a large plate containing 10 smaller dishes of different types of Tapas. All were absolutely divine! But we do have one point of advice for the restaurant staff to improve this experience - please when you serve Tapas always announce what the separate dishes are, as it is never obvious when this huge plate of food is placed in front of you - we want too know exactly what every one of these Tapas dishes contain.
All-in-all we had a wonderful time at this restaurant and would definitely go back again.
TIP - The seats on the Terrace are warmed from above and there are plenty of blankets to place over your legs. Order the 'Bitterballen' - a perfect bar snack whilst just drinking.

Our dinner experience had not been as rich as we had hoped, and so we came in here for dessert rather than staying at the restaurant.
Where else can you find a great ice cream cone for 1-euro 50? Granted that is only for a single scoop in a take away cone, but for a large and excellent scoop, this is a bargain. I do like the exceptional smoothness of this ice cream, but at the same time, I either want no crunch or lots of crunch to go with it and for this "after 8" scoop it was neither and so a little disappointing. I might have been off my mark because I really wanted chocolate and they had run out. The other flavours seemed to be largely fruity, and I realized that at least one of, if not both of my kids would have skipped it all tigether.
I had a more favorable impression 2 years ago, and that brought on by the staff. Today, having started yearning for a cone here as soon as the sat-nav honed in on Valkenburg, I found it flat to my expectation. Maybe I will test it again tomorrow to see if today was just an accident.

We were a party of 12 staying in the town and had pre-booked a set dinner for our party on a Sunday evening. The hospitality and ambience were excellent. The meal that had been designed for us was fabulous from the amuses-bouches right through to the coffee. The service was of the very highest order personally supervised by the chef-owner. The other diners were locals who very much seemed to be enjoying themselves as much as we did. Don't be alarmed if you see exactly the same description for the other French restaurant in the same street! We went there on the Saturday evening and were just as delighted. Thank you so much.

I think this was our third time to visit this restaurant. We had made Reservations and had a table right on the patio in front where it is just so fun to people watch. There were three in our party and we all tried the 4 course surprise dinner. Absolutely Delicious!!!!!! Great taste, presentation and just wonderful. We also did the wine pairing with each dish and we were not disappointed at all.
The staff is really good at explaining each dish and making sure we always had what we needed. A very enjoyable evening.
