RSPB Balranald

Reviewed By Les_Landau - Canberra, Australia

It was windy, the day we went, and that was a bit of a fight as we walked around the coastline, but it was well worth it, to see many birds on the shore, in the grass and flying about. Many birds seemed to just hover as they got lift from the strong winds. The path is marked by large cairns, but is very easy to follow.
A really nice walk, especially if you like to see birds.

Lady Anne Boat Trips

A really excellent wildlife (and scenery) trip. 12 max on boat plus Nick the Skipper who (and I appreciate this) took the trouble to take everyone through the map route beforehand to put trip into context. Glorious views of Eagles, Sea Eagles and Divers (black and red). 2 hours duration and well worth it.
PS: Nick was always available to chat / explain as well.

Centrally situated in the village, this was a good stopping off point on a tour of North Uist. Good choice of food at reasonable prices, a bit crowded but our visit coincided with a local charity hill run and road race. So there was plenty of buzz. Then off into the museum that was very informative with many displays. Also was showing local artwork. Well worth a visit.

Trinity Temple

Well worth a visit. Excellent brochure available throughout island and in most accommodation which gives brief background. There is a short walk involved which crosses a final unpathed stretch which may cause problems for some particularly after wet weather.

Traigh Lingeigh Beach is, yet again, another stunningly beautiful beach in the Outer Hebrides. The sand sparkles and the water glistens with an amazing turquoise hue. If you happen to be near, make it a point to spend some time here.

Hercules the Bear

Reviewed By Jaytee41 - Linlithgow, United Kingdom

Situated just off the main road, in the Langass Woods, clearly signposted is the resting place and monument to one of creatures you read about in fairy tales. Hercules, a huge brown bear, being used in a film shoot, escaped and remained free for a month before being caught again. Plaque says "Hercules the Bear lies sleeping here, watching over his beloved Islands, resting in peace"
You left the site quite moved! Children will love it.

So you may not be into getting a piece of artwork to take home, but go anyhow. It is great to chat with the artist (Judith) and see her work and hear her stories and soak in her enthusiasm. We spent a lovely time there,...MoreIt is always great to see visitors to the island and to hear about where they have been, what they've seen. Thanks for the comments.

St Kilda, Scotland

Reviewed By caroline m - Dundee, United Kingdom

Thoroughly loved visiting the island of St Kilda and surrounding stacks where the St Kildian's caught the fulmars and other seabirds that helped to sustain them throughout the year. You get some insight into how hard life would have been, exposed to the elements-with weather that can change so quickly. One of the houses has been turned into a little museum which again is very interesting- information on social history, plant and wildlife. there is a lot of look round and the visit went to quickly. Crème de la crème was watching pod of dolphins in the bay.
Delighted I have been and feel it's been great to tick it off my bucket list
