Dinosaur Exhibitions are the fashion nowadays. So perhaps we're a little spoilt by the big shows. The dino-park in Middelkerke shows a whole range of dinosaurs, most of them in an excellent state (no flaking paint or brittle members) and most often bright eyes. I imagine that as an educational support for a class dealing with the subject there is plenty of knowledge to be acquired provided one reads all the explanatory panels. For the ordinary visitor, the collection is a little less exciting, and not really worth the steep price.

Museum Kust Histories

The receptionists are unfriendly and sound as if they'd rather be elsewhere -- whether one wants to visit the museum or needs information about activities in Middelkerke (they are in charge of both). This being said, the museum offers a reasonable amount of insight and fun for a very small fee. The displays retrace the (recent) history of tourism at the Belgian coast, reflecting the impact of societal conditions like paid holidays, transportation and accommodation, and changing features of the tourist population, like beachware and leisure activities. The museum is accessible by car, but I recommend going by tram or on foot, as parking is scarce.

Pata Pata Beach Bar

Reviewed By JPGuillaume - Ostend, Belgium

Even though we are residents in the region, we like to take the coast tram to go and have coffee or drinks at Pata Pata because its situation and atmosphere immediately give us a feeling of being on holiday. The coffee is excellent (no decaf, though) and the drinks (beer, wine, sangria, cava and a spate of colourful cocktails) not cheap but affordable. Good music (Latino in 1916, more varied in 1917) audible but not too loud, games for the children (climbing tower, toboggan, toy house) inside the compound, close enough to allow parental supervision, and, above all, friendly service by lovely people. Should you need a loo (which is conceivable if you stay for several drinks), there are two, but put aside a fifty-cent coin to enter it.

Verhuringen Casino

Reviewed By Clive B - Dartford, United Kingdom

You cannot miss the numerous pedal cars, go-karts, bikes and assortment of other forms of pedal or electric vehicles that dart up and down the Promenade, with young children behind the wheels. I've always assumed that these would be quite expensive to hire, but actually only cost £4 for half an hour, which is great value for money given the amount of entertainment derived from them. They were actually the highlight of our trip to Middelkerke for our two boys. You do need proof of identity to rent vehicles for your family, so do bring your identity card, passport or drivers licence if it has a Photo. Staff record your details and time of hire, then adjust the seat to suit each user, then you are off. You only pay on return, depending on the length of use, so its best to set an alarm to give yourself enough time to get them back to the store in time, time does fly when you are having fun. Staff couldn't have been more helpful and all spoke more than one language fluently. One word of caution however, the Promenade does become busy at times and in the excitement accidents can, and do happen. There is a usually empty stretch of Promenade next to the actual Casino. where there is a delightful view over the beach and concrete benches that are surprisingly comfortable, which give a good view of your children enjoying themselves in front of you. Highly recommended
