Listed as one of the must sees in the area, we made it our first stop. We were shocked to see the only information available in English was a letter on display to refugees telling them no information or help was available to them from the church. A poor reflection of what faith means. We left and looked no further.

It takes a while to walk up to the castle but "wow" when you get there. The tour is very good, Martin Luther lived here for a while. The view is spectacular.

Marburg is an university town, about an hour train from Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof. The town's information center is 20-25 min. walk from station. Go straight on Bahnhofstrasse to the T then turn left, straight to the next T, turn left again on Elizabethstrsse. Walk straight follow the sign to the Stadtmitte. Pass a large parking garage you will see the information office on your right. To go to the upper town(oberstadt), Marktplaz and Rathus, you can take the elevator located just around a small parking lot after pass the Information office. There is a sign pointing to a hall path, you will see people queue up for the lift. This lift will take you up to the Markt, the Rathaus, and Marktplatz. Many half-timbered houses, narrow cobber stone paths fan out from the market square center. There are few elements that makes this Rathaus looks very attractive: the architecture is typical of Medieval German with Gothic tall roofs and crow stepped gables. The center part of the building consists of a cock crowns the top with a shiny globe below it and stone sculptures guarding the corners. In front of the Rathaus is the market square where town folks come for shopping or socializing. Cafes and restaurants business occupying most part of the square.

This garden belongs to the not so rare Gardens in European cities, which belongs to the University, and centrally located. Some of them, e.g. in Vienna (right across the fence from Belvedere) are absolute beauty, especially spring time.
This one is a small one, similar in size to Viennese one. But it is different because it tends to expose some kind of natural beauty. It is what I learned from my visit in March 2013 - the cold, really winter day, when all land was covered by snow. But publications and impressions from other people support my вуасшуте view that it is a good place to see.

From the point of view of the ordinary tourist, this Church can be notable for three things. First, the curve of the tower, which is jokingly compared with Pisa one. That is the spire rises into the sky at an angle, and it's not an optical illusion. Secondly, it is a "musical" Church – there are regular Concerts, mostly organ music. On Saturdays, it seems that the entrance is free. And thirdly, the installation of the shifter near the Church, consisting of the figures of the wolf, grandma and little red riding hood cobbled together into one.
I would add here the stained glass windows. Like almost everywhere in Germany, they are excellent and draw attention to themselves.

An interesting Museum. Largest in Hesse. Located just behind the Elisabeth-Kirche. Interesting not only for its exposition, although it has more than 100 thousand exhibits, including fragments of meteorites. But also the fact that all the buildings in this quarter belonged to the German Teutonic order. And University just adapted them to fit its needs. This house, in particular, was then the granary and bakery.
Entrance fee is 2 Euro.

Chapel of St. Michael stands on the green hill opposite Elisabeth-Kirche. It is as ancient and Gothic, with the same excellent stained-glass windows. In fact, more than anything else, they are both known for their Gothic elements, and are among five best Gothic churches to the North from Alps. Chapel was used at the beginning of its history as the cemetery of the hospital. However, after the 16th century burials here were sporadic and ended in the 19th century. It's functioning as a church. It also hosts Concerts, mostly of organ music. The organ in the chapel is considered one of the best in Germany. It was built half a century ago, by a famous artist from Kassel.
The chapel left a good impression. However, it was a little spoiled with rain. In this trip in Germany the rain was pouring almost every day.

Jammer dat dit gebouw alleen in de zomer maanden te bezichtigen is. Zou leuk geweest zijn wanneer er in de wintermaanden ook toegang was.
