Sampo, the former icebreaker for the Finnish government, offers a unique cruise experience on the Gulf of Bothnia. The union of the majestic steel, ice and the sea will be unlike anything else you've ever experienced. Four hour cruises yearly from December to April. Cafe, tours and souvenir shop open also on the summer time. Come and experience the Sampo in the midst of vast open arctic sea-scenery!
I went with a tour group on the icebreaker, not knowing what to expect, we were just told it was a must-see. I enjoyed it far more then I thought. The sound and the sight of these huge slabs of ice, breaking up as the boat slowly breaks its way onward is quite a sight. I stood on the deck and took video, pictures of our progress. The boat gets to a point where it stops, and you can get out and walk around on a sheet of ice. That was incredible to see - all these people in the middle of a frozen sea, right next to the ship. Also when the ship stops, you can get in a bright red suit and get in the frozen water in the ships wake. It’s a surreal experience, floating with blocks of ice. Everyone on our trip really enjoyed it.

The interior is spectacularly done, intricate decorations and brilliantly themed. But the whole thing was a fair bit smaller than I expected for the price. Especially with the crowd (I had the misfortune to show up when three tour buses did, early on a Sunday morning), it wasn't the extensive, relaxing experience that the Ice Hotel is.
In all, you'd be hard pressed to spend more than an hour here, unless you stop for a drink or wait in the long line for the slide. The wonderful (and free) historical and art museum in town took more time to go through. All-in-all, worth seeing, but can't being a bit disappointed given the price.

This pink gothic church in apleasantpatch of greenery stands out in a town with otherwise undistinguished buildings. It is not particularly large, but is is well proportioned. We did not go inside, so rating is on exterior appearance.

A gallery/museum with gemstones, including the crown made for the King of Finland (never used as Finland became a republic) and a replica of the British Imperial State Crown.
This was very interesting to visit there and learn more about Gemstones, find new ones and possibility to buy something with.

Meriken Leila-vesibussi vie 1,5 tunnin mittaiselle risteilylle Perämerelle Kemin edustalle. Turisteille Leila-risteily on ainutlaatuinen kokemus.
The Arctic Comics Center in Kemi has operated for over 30 years. The broad permanent exhibition that is arguably nationally unique, consists of Finnish and a foreign cartoonist original drawings and more than 40 three-dimensional cartoon statues. In addition, we occasionally offer interesting short-time Exhibitions at our premises. The exhibition is suited for the entire family.
