The South Korean valley town of Jeongseon, in Gangwon province, is well known for its five-day market, a bonanza of fresh fish, produce, herbs, homemade kimchi, cloth, performances and street food stalls. For a peek into the Jeongseon of the past, visit Arari Village, a recreation of a rural community that features traditional homes, handicrafts and a working waterwheel.

I made a reservation for a two-seat and a four-seat bike. I wasn't able to pay but I called them the day before our schedule and they said to just come and buy the tickets on site. We were at the Rail Bike station by 10:10 am and I was able to buy the tickets. My husband accompanied his parents in the four-seater while I and my son took the two-seater. The bike was easy to pedal ~ in fact my 9-year old son did it most of the time. The only time I took over was during the last kilometer ~ it was a little tough.
The scenery is just beautiful in the middle of June. The trees are in full bloom ~ everything is just so alive. On the way back, we took the free train and again ~ I was awed by the beauty of the scenery. Definitely worth the trip from Seoul!

A day full of adventure, excitement and surprises! The amazing beauty of Korean culture is well displayed even within the market itself. Our trip didn't just highlight the market but also the tourist attraction and breathtaking activities nearby the traditional market in Jeongseon area. Never miss the chance of experiencing yourself to something beyond your fear, something worth trying to and something memorable which are the mini skywalk, zipline and the railbike. I tried it on winter season so it was something different compared to my experience in my country.

We visited there without expectation, but there was very big cave, and was magnificent. There was many exhibits part, and natural capescape part. The both was excellent. In the entrance of cave, small tram was operated. If you visited Jeongseon area, I recommand to go there. Very beautiful, excellent cave..

Even I'm not into the DOTS drama, but I enjoyed my visit to Samtan Art Mine. This museum features a vast collection of previous coal mine items as well as few attractive arts collection. The highlight is the room used for the DOTS drama shooting location.

This is actually a viewing deck overseeing the beautiful nature and Mountains. The floor is see thru glass and every one must wear a shoe cover before entering. Less than 15mins in there and basically just phototaking. The national park is popular with the locals for trekking, outdoor activities, etc.

Been there recently and it has about 3 floors and a basement to display the history of coal mining in South Korea. It shows the process, sufferings, risk, of the miners. Most interesting part of the visit is to take the lift from 3rd floor down to basement where it simulates the miners taking a lifter down 100 to 200 meters underground. The effect of the lightings in the lift and a display showing the depth is very real. Underground exhibits is the most interesting. One needs about an hour there.

Didn't go inside as didn't want to pay the admission fee. Funnily enough, we took a stroll along the public riverside walkway and suddenly we were at its side entrance - and one could just enter at free will. Of course, we didn't but just looked across the walls. Some of the architecture were tellingly brand new with freshly painted walls and tiles. Hence, the traditional experience part would be somewhat lacking. Can get aplenty at Bukchon or Jeonju with no cost. Or any village in the countryside, for that matter.

The museum was lacking a world language for foreign visitors to be able to read. We had a native Korean adult with us, but she had never been in the museum before, so she did not have detailed information to share easily with us. The titles of the displays were in English, but no other information was available to read in English. Rather disappointing, because we knew Arirang was famous in Jeongseon. Very nice displays if you can read Korean. We were there to visit our daughter who was teaching English in the schools.
