Though Chidambaram Natarajar Temple is a place of worship with a long history, this temple offers a peaceful setting for self-reflection. Locals gather at the temple during festive season, sing and dance in the courtyards. The artistic, brightly-painted sculptures in the Temple's Gopurams demonstrate the mythology and culture. If you are visiting Chidambaram and you have one thing to do, you must visit this temple.

Pichavaram is a lovely tourist spot if you want to experience some calm and quiet, away from the noise and pollution of the city. These trips on the backwaters take you through mangroves which are the 2nd largest in India with the cool sea breeze calming you down as we watch some birds like kingfishers.

visited on a winter mild sunny day.
initially, felt it was just some lake with boating. Took 1 hour motor boat ride. first 10 minutes were uneventful. then the boat driver took us into close trees. it was an awesome feeling. we are surrounded by trees and in a boat. next 40+ minutes was awesome boat ride. I loved it.
It is one of must visit places in India.
always try to visit during morning times. The boat man told it water level will be high during full moon / new moon day. so plan your visit around those days. It is also a very hot place. Be ready for very hot climate if you plan to visit during summer.

Avoid weekends to enjoy the backwaters without wasting your time waiting for the boats. The motorboats if affordable will be ideal for your use exclusively, with the understanding with the boat operator to take the denser routes which is really adventurous and worth experiencing.

Tirunallurpperumanam Temple

Reviewed By Stephen P - Minneapolis, Minnesota

This is one of the most important Śiva temples in India. One cannot accurately say how far it dates back. This is the place where Śiva danced the Tandava and so in addition to its many other charms, this place is sacred to the art of dance. We were escorted for a tour by one of the priests, Pandit Ganapati Dikshitar, who was sweetly anxious to show us the nuances and rich history here. There are many different temples including a Śrī Cakra installed by Śankara. The usual dress code for the South holds but only for entering the sanctum of the temple: men must be bare chested and barefoot, women modestly dressed (upper arm and ankles covered). It is fine for men to remove their shirts just before entering the sanctum. So if you choose not to enter there is no need to change. Photography is not permitted within the sanctum of any of the temples. If you would like to photograph elsewhere, do ask the permission of one of the senior priests. Otherwise keep you camera covered. You should probably leave your shoes in your vehicle when you park. There is no place to store them near the temple grounds. It is 28 acres so take your time.
