John's Pizza Bar and Restaurant is a multi-award-winning establishment. It is a licensed, café-style, al-fresco restaurant located in the outback South Australian town of Coober Pedy, which specialises in providing locals and visitors alike with high quality, affordable dining and service.
Frankly, there are few restaurant choices in this Outback town. We happened on this place by default - it's right across the street from one of the main hotels. But we really liked what we found: good food in a friendly atmosphere...a great place to beat the heat, too! In my opinion, this is the best of the bunch. Loved the staff!

This is probably the nicest restaurant in Coober Pedy. I was staying in the hotel anyway on this trip, so thought I'd test it. The ricotta and spinach canneloni was quite nice. I couldn't resist trying the opal ice cream. For future reference, it's pretty...MoreThank you for your review. Hope we can serve you again in the future.

After a full day's drive and lots of sight seeing between Alice Springs and Coober Pedy, we needed a hot and satisfying meal to help ward off the cold on an outback night in July. My partner is a vegetarian, so Opal City seemed a good idea. Service in the dine in was good, the meal choices were excellent and the food was just what we needed. Szechuan chicken, fried rice and mixed vegetables in soy sauce.....yum! Portions were average and served quickly. We were the only people there which helped with service, but as we were finishing, a table of 6 arrived and it looked like the cook and waitress were under a little pressure between takeaways and table service. Location at the top of the hill in the main street was within walking distance of our accommodation at the bottom of the small main street. FYI, if you are a lover of vanilla slice, the bakery opposite the chinese restuarant has the best vanilla slices in the outback. Worth a visit if the bakery is open.

My wife and I had dinner here 5th Feb and glad we did after a quick look around town.
Nice, spacious, modern and clean bar and dinning area.
Very good friendly, helpful and quick service, fair prices for food, drinks and good honest food. We were disappointed they were out of lamb souvlaki but the mixed grill was more than enough for us both and only $35.
Recommended when in Cooper Pedy.

This would rate as the best pizza I ate over the course of my trip through the outback. Pizza was huge, hot, fresh and delicious. Watered down with a couple of Coopers of I couldn't think of a better spot for a bite to eat in Coober Pedy. Don't miss out. Gets very busy though and has limited Seating inside so get there early or takeaway.

The town is weird enough but to have a classical Greek lunch including marinated octopus in this mad max town puts this right up there of memorable travel experience. It is also underground.

Went here for breakfast after getting into Coober Pedy late the night before. The guys who run the place couldn't be friendlier. The coffee (actual coffee, after weeks of instant across the top end, this was hugely appreciated) food and service was all exceptional. Quality everything without the "it costs a lot for transport" ridiculous mark-up we saw elsewhere. Great place, highly recommended.
