We drove 30 minutes from Nyköping out to this old Swedish Fort, which was last actively manned, against possible Russian invasion/incursion, during the Cold War, but is now preserved as a tourist attraction. And very attractive it was too, if you like coastal scenery, woodland walks and old militaria, since Femöre has lots of each.
We spent around 4 hours there walking and photographing and, despite it being midwinter, there were many other families taking advantage of the snow-free conditions to work up an appetite.
I think Femöre would suit families with children in the 4-13 age group too. It is a bit physically demanding for toddlers and strollers and teenagers would likely get bored fairly quickly, but there is lots to interest and exercise young bodies and minds!

Old herritage railway built in 1877. Lots of old trains int the roundhouse and trips on the railway. Train runs wit steamengine from 1907 or electric locomotive from 1950 and coaches from 1930.

This is the perfect place to take the family for a picnic on the beach when the summer weather arrives an we took advantage when temperatures soared unexpectedly into the mid twenties. The area was (despite the weather) not too crowded, but we gave the premier dip in the sea a miss until later in the summer!
A great spot for families as the water is much more accessible here for small children, compared with other local beauty spots like Femöre and Stendörren. I have been told it can be quite busy in the height of summer, but for our visit the experience was near perfect.

Come to us for a wonderful experience in our beautiful and peaceful Archipelago. Where you can choose to rent a kayak our join a guided tour. You find us at Jogerso beach 30 minutes from Stockholm Skavsta Airport one hour south from Stockholm.

Kajak och Fritid is the perfect institution to start your kajak-trip in Sweden. You are not only provided with all the equipment you need (kajak, tent, kitchen etc) but you also get to know a very kind and generous owner: Martin. I can fully recommend this place as your starting point for your own personal adventure in Sweden. You will have a great time and experience nature as a pure as it is.

Detta är ett museum som är väl sevärt även för alla de som inte har varit sjömän.
Historien om Oxelösunds hamn och sjöfart. Utskeppningen av malm och trävaror från slutet av 1800 talet. Grängesrederiet från början av 1900 talet. Båtmodeller samt mycket utställningsmaterial om sjöfarten på de sju haven.
Mycket kunniga medlemmar från Klubb Maritim som guidar runt.
Fritt inträde, men man kan lämna ett bidrag i "tunnan" som går till klubben och dess verksamhet för att kunna hålla muséet öppet under sommaren.
