We drive through Barry's Bay on a regular basis and have stopped at many different restaurants but we had never been to the Balmoral Hotel so this last drive through town had to include a stop at the Balmoral.
We just happened to be driving through town on a Friday which happens to be the same day as the Farmers Market so the location of the Balmoral Hotel was perfect, directly across the street from the Farmers Market. Access into the restaurant has two options: stairs or a ramp. They have a nice Seating area outside under umbrellas but we opted to eat in the restaurant itself.
This particular day we were the only patrons in the restaurant; however, there were a couple of individuals sitting in the bar/lounge in the next room. Service was very fast and the waitress was friendly and very accommodating.
This particular day they had two soup options, unfortunately both of them were spicey. There were four people in our group; two ordered fish and chips, one ordered the smoked meat Sandwich and one ordered the chicken Caesar wrap. The portions were very generous and the food was good but the reason we chose "average" rather than "very good" were the French fries. They were awful. It was as if the fries had been boiling in oil rather than frying in oil. They were soggy and definitely not cooked all the way through.
We're really glad we stopped at the Balmoral Hotel but unfortunately, that will be the last stop for us.

Gave them another chance- wish we hadn`t. We were the first to arrive on a Sunday afternoon. First choice of food wasn`t available - so ordered a Montreal Smoked meat Sandwich and a quinoa wrap. Food finally arrived - wrap was bland and uninteresting but the ``sandwich`` was even worse - skimpy meat serving on a single, very thin slice of rye, served cold with unmelted cheese - totally unacceptable for the $12 price. My husband took it back to the bar and informed the server what was wrong with it. Minutes later, the kitchen help came out and hollered from the top of the steps `what am I supposed to do with this`` in a very hostile manner as she held my husband`s plate in her hand. Well, one response came to mind, but we are polite people. She then came over to the table and when we told her it was cold she proceeded to poke it with her fingers just in case we were lying - so what did we want her to do about it.
as she returned to the kitchen, I commented ``wow`` to my husband, to which I was actually mimicked by her as she walked up the steps. Needless to say, we cancelled that Sandwich and wanted to pay. Thankfully and to her credit she did not want payment for any of it but also tried to blame it on her trainee. Appalling customer service and really bad food. The owners should be ashamed of themselves and ``Mary`` needs to be sacked before she drives all their customers away. Don`t waste your hard-earned cash on this dump. Chip truck on the other side of the bridge has way better food for your money.

I stopped at Dairy Freeze with my family on a recent road trip because we had heard good things about it.
We were severely disappointed. Our hamburgers were nothing more than Schneiders Steakettes from frozen. Wafer thin and overcooked it was like eating cardboard with a single tiny and very lonely pickle on it. The fries weren't much better. They looked great and were nice and crispy on the outside, but they were completely underdone on the inside.
Since they serve Kawartha Dairy at least the ice cream should be good.

We stopped here for lunch on a family vacation. We were the only ones in the place since it was early in the week and early afternoon. The chicken wings were awesome, not breaded and a wonderful honey garlic sauce. Our server was also excellent!

We enjoyed the Sunday dinner buffet. This includes soup, salad, entree and dessert. Everything was wonderful. The pirogies were huge and tender. Golabki & Polish sausage amazing. Definitely home made Polish fare! Although it was hard to find room, the desserts offered were so tempting. Could not resist the lemon meringue pie. Great beer selections. Service was warm and welcoming. Definitely look forward to a return visit to the Wilno Tavern. Would love to experience the music some time. Make sure you book Reservations. This place gets busy!
