Top 6 Things to do in Jaipur, India

December 20, 2017 Claudia Navarrete

If you take one look at the glorious stucco buildings that line Jaipur's wide streets, you'll understand why this is nicknamed "The Pink City." Spend your days exploring City Palace, Hawa Mahal, and Amber and Jaigarh forts. And if you're looking for a unique souvenir, head to one of the bazaars, where you can pick up a pair of camel-leather slippers.

Amber Fort

Visited Amber Fort with our guide, could not have done it without one. So many stories going back to the 1700s and such a magical place.
First we got to ride the elephant up to the entrance, you can only do this between the hours of 7am and 11am.
Over 100 elephants taking people up to the fort is a sight you won't see anywhere else.
When in India this has to be on your list

Elefantastic

Elefantastic Elephant Farm is a unique and inspiring experience that is a must do for anyone visiting India. Elefantastic Elephant Farm is owned and managed by a former Elephant Rider (Mahut), farm focusing on health-care and breeding management for friendly, beautiful and special elephants to produce healthy elephants to live on Earth. /., Although Elefantastic Elephant Farm was only born on 21st February 2012, my family's involvement with our elephants backdate to over 4 generations ago. Before Elefantastic Elephant Farm materialised, I was an elephant rider at amber palace for 9 years, providing riding tours for the many tourists that visited amber palace. Although I enjoyed being an elephant rider at amber palace & met many tourists, I couldn't help wanting something more meaningful, not for me, but for my elephants. Many of the tourists I met were interested in the day to day life of elephants and what I do with them, rather than just wanting an ordinary ride. As I pondered on the possible opportunities, I realized that I wanted to show people a more in depth insight into the lives of my elephants. There are vast misconceptions across India that animals - especially elephants - are very badly mistreated. I decided that I want to prove to people that this is not always the case and take a step forward in eradicating these misconceptions. This decision inspired me to start Elefantastic Elephant Farm, which gives an insight into the daily lives of our elephants. You will see that all of our elephants are well fed, with spacious rooms, attentive vet check ups every week to make sure they're all at the peak of their health, with loving and caring riders.

When planning our trip to India, my dream list included a personal encounter with elephants in a way that was respectful and compassionate. This tour absolutely fulfilled this dream. The staff was courteous and helpful, answering our questions and explaining the history of the sanctuary as well as of the individual animals. The elephants were well-treated. We enjoyed participating in the local custom of painting the elephants (as we had passed by many roadside in the area), as well as riding one for about 45minutes. I would recommend this experience.

Before coming to India I was very cautious about going to any places with elephants because of maltreatment stories. Elephant joy was not like any of those stories. You walk in and the elephants are standing under shade, and are being well fed throughout the time you are with them. No hooks or Spears were used when they were telling the elephants what to do. The workers know a lot about elephants and are happy to take pictures for you so you can enjoy your time with these majestic animals. You feed them, can ride them (without uncomfortable chairs on their backs), paint them (with paint that comes off after a good wash) and you can bathe them. It was so amazing to see this beautiful animal and bond with them. I was with Shanty and I will never forget what a beautiful animal she was. Worth every penny!

We had the most amazing afternoon here! Thank you so much Ankit for bringing us to your elephant village!!! We were not fond of taking the elephant ride at the fort like many others do, but we absolutely loved this relaxed afternoon of enjoying your elephants and feeding them, painting them and maybe ourselves at little too!!!! And getting to walk with the elephants!!! Thanks again for your wonderful hospitality and kindness to us during our visit, your knowledge you shared with us about your elephants was very much appreciated. Great value for money and would do it all again if only we had a longer stay! Next time perhaps.......we wish you all the best always and thank you again!

Sheesh Mahal (Hall of Mirrors)

The entire Amber Palace far exceeded any expectations we had of India. Hall of mirrors is just one of many things to see in the Palace There is far more to see in India than just the Taj Mahal.
