Gweedore (officially known by its Irish language name, Gaoth Dobhair, Irish pronunciation: [ˌɡˠi ˈd̪ˠoːɾʲ]) is an Irish-speaking parish located on the Atlantic coast of County Donegal in the Republic of Ireland. Gweedore stretches some 26 kilometres (16 mi) from Meenaclady in the north to Crolly in the south and around 14 kilometres (9 mi) from Dunlewey in the east to Magheraclogher in the west, and is one of Europe's most densely populated rural areas. It is the largest Irish-speaking parish in Ireland with a population of around 4,065, and is also the home of the northwest regional studios of the Irish-language radio service RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta, as well as an external campus of NUI Galway. Gweedore includes the villages Bunbeg, Derrybeg, Dunlewey, Crolly and Brinalack, and sits in the shade of Donegal's highest peak, Errigal.

If you have a little time, the Poison Glen is well worth seeking out. Lucky for us, one of the rangers at Glenveagh NP provided excellent road directions - as we would never have found if we had relied on the road signs. There is a fairly rough walking track of maybe 1.5 km that takes you up to the Glen. It is very quiet, very stark, and - as long as you like your landscape stark - very beautiful.

Located on the main Bunbeg beach which is stunning!. Very shallow waters where you can wade out across to the island. The ship wreck is best seen when the tide is out, great for kids and photo shoots. the beach is amazing for care free play time for kids and lovely views of the sea and land. There is a free car park close by but we drove on to the beach before sunset and it was brilliant, lovely views of the sun sinking, the ship wreck laying on the sand and a lovely evening, very romantic!!.

Dunlewey is found at the bottom of the "poison Glen" off the N56 on the way down from Glenveagh National park and worth a wee detour. Built from Granite and limestone the colours are a beautiful mix. The roof was taken off for safety reasons but it is such a peaceful spot it is worth a visit. The local people raised funds along with the heritage fund from the European Union to preserve it

Had a lovely day here with the kids (aged 3 and 6). Drove from Letterkenny and the views around Glenveagh and as you approach Dunlewey are absolutely outstanding! Was a beautiful sunny day and our jaws hit the floor when we seen the valley Dunlewey is in - so had our picnic on the benches at the veiwing point (before you come into the town).
Was hard to find the centre as the signage in Dunlewey is miniscule but made it. Went straight for the pony rides on the far side of the car park was great for 5 euro per child - kids loved it. The staff there were fantastic and were brilliant with the kids. Hope to go back on the full family trek in the forest looking for the faries.
Went into the centre and paid for boat ride and entry for 4 of us (19 euro in total) and through to the small farm/park/play area. Historical videos and old houses await as you go through the gift shop. Kids liked seing the old shop. Went through the small collection of farm animals petting the donkeys and the baby chicks on the way. Paid for a book of 10 tokens for 14 euro. Kids loved the pedaloes (2 tokens each for as long as you like) and the water zorbs (2 tokens each). There was a bouncey freefall slide (1 token for as long as you like) and a small softplay area. There was a bronco and four bungee trampolines (2 tokens each).
The guided boat trip around the lake was good fun - mix of history and legend. On the boat itself we had a lovely view of the Poison Glen, Grainne Island and the beautiful Mount Errigle in the background. The guide was knowledgable and funny. The kids then played in the park on the zip line and climbing frames for an hour and the day was done. Was a great day out with the kids with outstanding views on the way in. Would definitely recommend!

Just down the N56 from Gortahork is this wonderful place that all our grandchildren loved! from ages 2 1/2 to 12! Friendly place with all the animals and a place to have a coffe indoors with soft games for the younger ones. Today the 2 oldest asked if we could go back before we go home! That really says everything!
