Loughcrew Cairns access insulates it a bit from being overrun. For many, it's modestly inconvenient both in the sense of away from traditional tourist routes as well as immediate access as in uphill climb. Nearby there are somewhat similar preservations much more accessible and surrounded by introductory structures, creature comforts, and commercial vehicle access.
Its slightly invigorating (inconvenient to some) climb for access will far better keep the hoards one reviewer fears than a relatively modest run of good reviews. This is similar to a couple of Irish sites rivaling the vistas of the Cliffs of Moher, again less conveniently located and all to the good of those who wish to experience the wonders of nature or man with less modern trappings interference.
Though I'm not one given over to any overt religious piety or ritualism, there's something of an aura in quietly ascending (without distraction) to such a pinnacle of yester eon focus. With a little imagination, we can dust off the barren obligation to check off another modestly required box tick and picture ourselves more vividly as part of a community light years ahead of our limited understanding of their vastly impressive sophistication.
Look around and wonder. How much of their invention, focus and values were political, religious, strategic, scientific and earthbound? We can make ourselves dizzy coming to insights involving allegedly crude folk way ahead of our capacity to comprehend their subtlety.

Small but pretty the kids loved it but you can walk around it in about 10 minutes. Well kept beautiful borders. The ponds are lovely. The grounds of the church are a bit treacherous so be careful

The Dublin Bar

The Dublin Bar is a nice place to grab a pint in the Oldcastle town square. The bar is filled with all kinds of interesting things hanging from the ceiling - road signs, teakettles, lots of conversation starters. The owner is friendly and quick with a joke! It's a good place to drop in when you're in Oldcastle.

Witch's Hill

Witch's Hill is based in Oldcastle, Co. Meath. Run by Pauline and Margaret it offers something for everyone. Front of house we have a lovely art gallery and coffee shop offering home cooking and a new art collection every month. Our back room is hidden by a giant tree door and houses wall to wall murals depicting all the sights to see in the area. This room is also used for workshops and classes.
