15 mins from town close to the airport - the rare plane comes in to land over the beach. Swimming is safe; soft, powdery sand and very few people; lovely long beach walk too. Hire a scooter to get there arrange through your hotel. Probably the best beach on Con Dao.

Lacasa is a Cocktail Bar located on a beautiful cross-road corner that is about 5 minutes walking to the main beach of Con Dao Island. We also offer local tastes.
Lacasa is situated close to Villa Maison and the centre of the town. They offer classic cocktails or more interestingly, cocktails with a local twist, with influences and flavours from the region. We managed to sample quite a few during our stay, purely as research of course, and all were absolutely delicious. Well made, fresh and tasty. Very friendly place and great to sit and have a cocktail and watch the world go by.

The museum tells the untold history of the prison and what the Vietnamese had to endure. Over the course of four decades 20,000 political prisoners were killed here.
In 1954, the French administration handed the prison to the US-backed South Vietnamese government. It continued using it as a political prison during the Vietnam War, gaining international notoriety after a US congressional delegation discovered shocking conditions at the prison in 1970 and images of prisoners in “tiger cages” were published in Life magazine.
Today, the prison is a museum attracting tourists to the island, with monuments dedicated to the Vietnamese who fought for independence from France and the communist ideology. There is little trace in academic research or online of the Cambodian prisoners who had fought for their cause.

Not so easy to find the So Ray trail starting point, you have to follow the barbed wire and imagine there is a path, but the trail is quite easy and it is a very nice experience to see snakes, black squirrels, frogs, monkeys and a lot of insects - beautiful butterflies. Take adequate shoes, water and strong insect repellent! Nice view on the top too but we preferred what we saw during the trail.
The team also manage the marine park. Turtles should be protected... but you can find more baby turtles in some less scrupulous restaurants than in the see, and a lot of morays, tropical fishes. There was fishing boats inside "the protected area" during our dives... May be they are lacking of manpower to enforce their laws?
