A visit to Ales Stenar is well worth a detour of you happen to be in the region. The megalithic arrangement on the elevated coastline of southern Scania east of Ystad immediately brings you back in time, to a time when the relative movements of the earth and the sun has meanings that are forgotten nowadays.
Beautiful.

Here at Ystad Djurpark, we try to ensure that our animals and visitors all feel at home. Amid the undulating countryside, you can meet large exotic animals from around the world and many different native breeds, as well as monkeys, lemurs, meerkats, birds and reptiles. In all, we currently have around 60 different species. We also have a large pool area (open 1 June to 30 September) with heated pools. And not forgetting our fantastic café, where you can stop for a bite to eat, something to drink or an ice-cream.
It's a zoo without the tigers and lions but plenty more to see. Lots of farm animals but also animals from all around the world. Big space and easy to walk around. Kind of expensive entry ticket. Included is also a small water park for the kids. Great place for families. Also possible to bring your own food or buy inside. You can also rent (for like 30 kr) a small wagon if you have lots of stuff to carry and simple drag this around instead. Seemed to be popular.

Still look decent after all the changes and damages taken during centuries.
Started as A Romanesque church in 13th century, then turned into Gothic, then rebuilt and a new Baroque was added.
So...we dont know what it is, it looks odd but nice. The old city around is what brings flavor to it. Ystad old town is great. The church is ok but dont expect much from it...it is just an old place of God, just about it

The Abbey in Ystad was founded in 1267 by Franciscan munks called Grey Friars. It is the best kept Abbey in Sweden together with Vadstena Abbey. Today it houses the cultural history museum of Ystad: The Abbey in Ystad. The Abbey in Ystad offers Exhibitions and activities all year around. The medieval church built in Brick Gothic style is the oldest structure and is open for museum visitors. During the summer visitors enjoy fragrant and healing plants in the herb, cabbage, rose and peony Gardens surrounding The Abbey. The museum shop offers designer items and handmade crafts. You can also buy a cup of coffee and a sweet treat there.
The rich story of this beautifully restored abbey unfolds from 1267 and it provides a timeline mirroring Nordic history. Through the centuries, the monks toiled diligently to enlarge and improve their abbey. This all came to a brutal end when they were evicted as part of the religious Reformation that swept the Nordic countries in the 16th century.
The building was later used as a hospital, a distillery and a granary. In the late 19th century, the decay had gone so far that a decision was made to demolish the entire structure. However, this rekindled conservation efforts, and money was raised to secure a restoration. Today, it is a major tourist attraction in Ystad, with some 70 thousand visitors per year.
It is worthwhile to also take a walk around the entire building to see the Gardens.

I had visitors from Portugal and the U.S. The goal for our visit to Ystad on a rainy day was to look at places from Wallander novels. The tourist office had lots of information including a 50 kr. brochure just about Wallander that is available in English and Swedish.
There was also lots of other information about other places in the area. The man at the counter was very friendly and helpful - a stark contrast to the Lund tourist office.

Salt Creek Spa offers a broad variety of very professional treatments and relaxing experiencies in a sophisticated environment. Service is personal and friendly even when stressed of many guests. Maybe the spa is a bit understaffed for the considerable volume of guests. Price level is high but so is the quality.

I visited Cenetekt while on a weekend visit to Ystad - mainly because of my interest in the 'Wallander' stories and films/TV series which are set in and around the town.
The museum is next to Ystad Film Studios and includes sets and props from the 'Wallander' films. It's a bit of a walk from the town centre but well worth it.

In this place you can stroll around and look at different plants and trees. You can also buy a lot of different plants here. They have a very good selection of rhubarbs if you are interested. In the cafeteria you can take coffee or something to eat, cakes or sandwiches and they will use the plants from the garden when they make everything.
