The villa and exposition are worthwhile to visit and open your eyes to the early artistic development of Piet Mondriaan.
The technicalities of drawing and composition was taught to him by his father who was a gifted artist himself. His uncle Fritz Mondriaan taught him to paint in the impressionist style.
Later he developed in Amsterdam Cubism with his friends Theo van Doesburg and Bart van der Leck. He made several drawings and gouaches from the garden of his parents house.
Especially the drawings of the apple-tree in the garden were instrumental in the development from cubism to abstract painting.
The museum is well laid out and the audio tour is included in the price of the entry ticket.
Small snacks are available in the coffee corner.

Jammer jammer jammer

The annual Zwarte Cross festival, in Lievelde, Netherlands during July, is one of the biggest ticketed festivals in the Netherlands. Each year, almost 200,000 visitors attend this festival featuring music as well as motocross, stunts, theatre, and camping. The Zwarte Cross festival is the largest motocross event in the world! The four-day event will feature more than 200 bands on 27 stages, spread over 137 hectares of festival grounds. There are theatrical acts featuring poetry, literature, dance, cabaret, and comedy, and motocross races including Superclass, heavy-weight, 85cc, mopeds, and more.
English: Good festival, a lot of good music and events. Very loud though and a lot of drunk people. Expect your cloths to get dirty. They also spray water and very well shredded paper which stings your eyes and mouth. Besides that pretty fun.
Daarnaast is best leuk .

Being Dutch there isn't much that captures my imagination than cheese. I love cheese in all its forms but Dutch cheese...the texture...nothing like the plastic feel of the Lidle Edam...No, real Dutch cheese like the cheeses they sell here at the Kaasboerderij Weenink, the young ones, firm yet soft...all that contradiction...it cuts like butter but slower depending on age. They are all there from young to really old, crumbly, dark with white chalky stripes when it gets cut! And the taste! The lady behind the counter makes sure I've tasted all the ones she sees me looking at.
The Dutch don't just like the cheese as cheese they have the most wonderful flavourings: nettles, cumin, mustard seed ...I could have been there all day, taste it all...straight from the stable onto their shelves and the local yoghurt, quark, chutney....but the cheese here, from the well, made with love...
All I'll say is: there's not enough of it in the world.

Museum about hiding and resistance in difficult times. The museum highlights everyday life during WW2 and the personal choices that people had to make at the time. The emphasis is on going into hiding in occupation time.
Great place to hang out for a couple of hours! Go back in time and get a feeling of what WWII was like - its an experience kind of like the anne frank museum- without a two hour wait. A must - see in aalten!

Escaperoom Groenlo is a challenging and nervous game based on the Battle of Grolle in 1627. Leuk historisch thema, mooie kamer, bijzondere opdrachten.

This is my wife's favourite shop in Winterswijk. If you like to browse and look around shops to find unexpected treasures, this is the place to go. It looks deceptively small from the front, but there's room after room full of gift and home decoration ideas, in vintage and antique styles, this shop has an amazing range of goods to browse!

Tevens handgemaakt aardewerk/servies.

This could be a great stop along a bike ride through the country side. Bike from Winterswijk through lichtenvoorde and Silvolde and all around the countryside. Very pretty around that area with great biking paths. Erve Kots gives you a good idea what life was like in the old days. All original buildings and a great restaurant as well.
