Lomnicky Peak

Reviewed By kanizsairita - Budapest, Hungary

You have to book tickets farly in advance, still in October when the climbing season is nearly ended. The cable car goes every hour, but it takes only 12 persons.
For me it was too risky to book in advane because you dont know how the weather should be. When there are some clouds, it is is totally superfluous to go up, because you will see maybe nothing except fog. In high Mountains you never know, the cloud can come and go quickly. When you can could be sure that the weather will be clear, no more tickets.
They dont like tourists in Slovakia. They rarely speaks english and not so friendly if you are a foreigner. They are mostly waiting for local people.

The Black Pond

This trip is a fantastic experience, the black pond (Czarny Staw, Fekete tó) is a hidden jewel of the Zakopane region. Besides this is a place which is horribly tough to reach but you do not need mountain climbing experience or an outstanding physical condition. Be careful though, locals say that you should not venture it without boots that protect your ankles, and they are absolutely right although many people do not take this advice. It's a glacier lake above Morskie Oko. If you want to do it and you are not super sportive it is advisable to reach Morskie Oko on the horse carriages offered at Lysa Polana parking lot for 50 zl/person upwards. After you get off the carriage, you walk 1,5 kms on concrete, then reach the lower lake, Morskie Oko which is in itself a beauty. You have a restaurant here so it is comfortable and you can buy water bottles from a vending machine. You might be badly in need of this as our experience was that you need 1 liter per person from here to go up and down the black pond on a hot summer day. The way is quite steep in some places and quite tyring. From Zakopane to the black pond by car, then carriage then on foot to and fro, the whole journey takes around 8-10 hours or more. However it is absolutely worth it !!!!

Nice place to visit if you only have few hours in this area...walk around the lake takes 40-60 minutes depending on your speed and "traffic" because it can get really crowded. The view is beautiful, lake is surrounded by Mountains and there is a lot to do. Good idea if you have small kids, you can hire a bike or row boat or just simply enjoy the coffee with the view This is also one of the popular starting points for tourists, so if you have more time and a lot of energy there is plenty of routes.

Tricklandia

Reviewed By Jiri S - Oxford, United Kingdom

Place is full of optical illusions. You can create beautiful tricky photos. Kids (and adults as well) can enjoy big mirror maze or antigravity illusions which trick your brain to believe that ball can go uphill. These illusions tries to convince your brain to stabilize in opposite direction than it should, so it's quite tricky to walk straight :-)

Lake Morskie Oko

Reviewed By Iwona L - Krakow, Poland

Worth to go there when you are in Tatra Mountains, this is one of the most popular and overcrowded places. Quite easy tour, does not require any particular skills, however still you should be prepared for the weather, have good shoes and clothes. You can start from the parking (leaving a car - 25zl for the whole day) and after ca. 2h of walking you will reach the Lake. You will not be alone there - one billion of tourists will be with you. The view is amazing, this is one of the pearls in Poland. In winter the lake is completely frozen.

Getting to the cable car was well signposted and straightforward. The service was grouchy. I got greeted halfway up the mountain by another walker who told me that black girls are not welcome in Slovakia. I then decided that it was too hot to continue my hike and chose to take in the views and head down at leisure.

Skok waterfall is easily reachable from Strbske Pleso. The walk grants you with a nice mountain and river views, the path is not too difficult and is suitable for a nice family activity with small children. The walk takes approximately 1:30h and has no dangerous places on the way. You can also climb the waterfall and enjoy the view - and the lake that is on the top. You can get a nice meal on the way back at the Strbke Pleso restaurant.
