Ganshoin Temple is a notable destination on account of the considerable strength of Hokusai's wonderful ceiling-mounted phoenix painting. The colors and style of the image are masterful and extremely enjoyable, especially once you know that the artwork was the final product of an aged (89-yo?) and highly regarded artist. If only we all could depart the stage at a level of attainment and accomplishment on par with Hokusai's last artistic effort!

A few of the animals had rather bare cages, but you could tell from the workers that they love the animals so much. Especially the capybara keeper, who tried he best to explain the animals to me and even let me pet them.
Really cute place and definitely recommend it.

The draw here is a nice little private garden with some chestnut trees (which the area is known for). It's nice to see if you're around and there aren't a lot of people, but maybe not worth seeking out specifically. Unless you're like REALLY into chestnuts.

Drove about 1 hr from Suzaka via a narrow and meandering road (with tens of 180-degree turns) before arriving at the parking area @3pm. It was a cloudy and windy day with rainfalls looming, hiked quickly to the observation pt in abt 30min, along a narrow and meandering path paved with rocks and leaves. At last, the breathtaking view of the dual Waterfalls was stunning, with a tint of fall foliage ! Due to strong wind, the Waterfalls were being blown to the side at times !
As it was getting darker, decided to return iso getting near to the base of the Waterfalls. will do it next time :)
ps. went on a weekday while the traffic ban was not effective yet. During peak foliage periods, only special shuttle bus is allowed.

The winery is charming and worth a look-see. However one cannot take photos of the interior. There is a tasting room and a back room where one can sit and relax while tasting samples. The wine itself is average at best and priced on the high side.
