Suncheon (Korean pronunciation: [sun.tɕʰʌn]) (Suncheon-si) is a city in South Jeolla Province, South Korea. It is a scenic agricultural and industrial city of around 250,000 people near Suncheon Bay. It is located in the southeastern corner of Jeollanam-do, just over an hour south-east of Gwangju. Forty minutes south of Suncheon is the port city of Yeosu, and twenty minutes to the east of Suncheon is Gwangyang. It is currently experiencing strong development due to being included as part of the Gwangyang Bay Free Economic Zone, one of three newly created Free Economic Zones (FEZs) in South Korea due to open within the next decade. As of October 14, 2007 plans are being set up and a referendum is being planned for a merging of the cities of Yeosu, Suncheon and Gwangyang into a new metropolitan city, taking advantage of the Gwangyang Bay Free Economic Zone, Yeosu's Expo 2012 bid and port facilities, Suncheon's educational institutes and Gwangyang's POSCO plant.

We weren"t quite sure beforehand whether we should take the detour through Suncheon while travelling from Seoul to Busan, but were so glad we did it. The park is beautiful and well maintained. We went for sunset and enjoyed great views. Not sure what it's like on weekends, but we went on a thursday and it was not crowded at all. Great place for photography too.

Spent much of the day (arrive early and have the place to yoursef, crowds grow rapidly, especially around holidays) and you will heve much of the place to yourself. This is cultural Korean heritage that is treditional, abd alive. People still live and work here, but other parts have blossomed into an area of education and display of Korea of the past (and in some part the present)). Can get there by car, train and bus.

As nature lovers, our group thoroughly enjoyed our all day visit (W8000 admission.) We spent some time in the formal Gardens (great photo ops!) then took the SkyCube (W8000 fee) to the reed marshes. Birdwatchers in the group were excited to see a flock of hooded cranes, little egret, gray heron, Daurian redstart, brown-eared bulbul, Eurasian magpie, bullheaded shrike, Eurasian nuthatch, parrotbill, Chinese grosbeak, common pochard and Eastern spot-bill duck. Gardeners loved the bonsai chrysanthemum display, the Dutch garden, the greenhouse and the rock garden. We walked over 12,000 steps so biking may be the way to go. We visited on a weekday and it wasn't busy. I think we were the only nonKoreans there. Several cafes are inside the garden with limited menu plus snacks. Suncheon area is friendly to tourists but have few English speaking taxidrivers, hotel staff, etc.

It is beautiful temple.
Generally speaking, buddhist temples are located in beautiful mountain in Korea. Therefore every temple is beautiful in everywhere.
This is one of them.
Viewpoints are:
- stone bridge
- old toilet
. Toilet means remove your difficulties in a temple.
- 600 years old plume tree

On top of the many reasons why people travel to South Korea is to visit the drama set / film location of their favorite Korean series or movies.
Unfortunately, one may really have to travel to so many places, as a result, so much money will have to be spent and too much precious travel time (as in commute/transportation) it will consume for they are situated in different location.
In Suncheon Drama Film set, the quote “two birds in one stone” applies. Actually, more than two birds. It is home to many of Korea’s popular series or movies. Running Man, East of Eden, Sunny, Baker King/King of Baking, Gangnam Blues or Gangnam 1970 to name a few.
This is actually a major flashback to old Korea during the 1950’s up to the 1990’s. To complete your flashback, the studio lets you rent clothes (school, military uniforms and stuff). Perfect for your photo op and completes your Korean movie experience.
You are now a Hallyu Star. Enjoy!

I am not sure which Songgwangsa the previous reviewer was talking about but I discover there were 2 Songgwangsa. This one is in Jeollanam do, Suncheon si and is one of the distinguished three jewel temples in Korea. I hiked 6.5km through Jogyesan from Seonamsa to here. Took me 4hours with my entire baggage (backpack).
The temple is beautiful especially the Daeungbojeon which houses the Buddha of the past, present and future. I simply can stay there all day and not get tired of looking at it. I joined the templestay for 50000won but as i was the only person, there was no fixed programme. I am free to walk around or join in the ceremonies and meals.
At 3.30am, the dharma drum starts off the morning ceremony and it is truly amazing to hear and feel it. Morning ceremony at Daeungbojeon starts at 4am and to my surprise, there are a few civilians there joining in too.
The temple lodgings were fantastic with warm floor and ensuite bathroom. And the templestay staff is an excellent guy, Mr Kim, he is friendly and helpful and even walked me to Bulil-am, a famous hermitage in the mountain and drove me to catch the bus at the bus stop outside Songgwangsa.

I visited this park as it was located next to my hotel.
Most of the signage in the park is in Korean, so I'm afraid I couldn't understand much about the cultural aspects of the park. It had two nice sitting areas in the middle of the lake, accessed via the bridge. There are a couple of teahouses in traditional style which are quite colourful.
A nice place to have a relaxing afternoon. Easy to sit down and watch the world go by. There are two monuments in the park, which I am not familiar with. There are also 12 old tombstones.
All in all a very relaxing afternoon.

this temple has two entries... beautiful setting and historic buildings, in particular the bridge, well worth the visit. The hike across to Seonun-sa is also worth doing
