Starnberg is a German town in Bavaria, Germany, some 30 kilometres (19 mi) southwest of Munich. It is at the north end of Lake Starnberg, in the heart of the "Five Lakes Country", and serves as capital of the district of Starnberg. Recording a disposable per-capita income of €26,120 in 2007, Starnberg regained its status as the wealthiest town in Germany from the Frankfurt suburb of Hochtaunus.

The weather was so nice when we were here, the days were lovely, the lake was so clean, full of ducks, people enjoying the good weather, all the children, the pets. One morning we went for a swim and it was a great cold water. I wish I had more time to spend in Starnberger.

The Votivkapelle is a neo-Romanesque style chapel built in honour of Ludwig II.
Ludwig, also known as the "Märchenkönig" (the Fairy Tale King), is the one who commissioned the construction of Neuschwanstein Castle, Linderhof Palace & Schloss Herrenchiemsee.
Ludwig, who was quite popular among the citizens of Bavaria back then & still is well-regarded today, died at the same location on June 13th of 1886 under suspicious circumstances. A memorial cross marks the spot where his body was found.
The geographic coordinates are 47°57'50.0"N 11°20'53.6"E, several footpaths from Berg (1 kilometer) & Starnberg train station (4,4 kilometer) lead to the chapel.
Obviously the best time to go there is spring or summer, go there when the weather is nice, sit down on one of the park benches & enjoy the nice view & quiet surroundings of Lake Starnberg.

Roseninsel is an island (the only island) in Lake Starnberg. A 4 euro (roundtrip) fare for the short ferry ride (passengers only) is about 20-30 minutes walk from the Feldafing and Posenhofen S-Bahn stops. The island is tiny with restored rose garden and "casino" (villa or cottage) built by Maximilian in the early 1860s. Great views of the alps off to the south of the lake and an information point explaining prehistoric diggings found in shallow waters just off the northeast point and designated yet another UNESCO site. There is no admission fee for the island but a small one (@2-3 euros) for a tour of the casino. Limited interior decor but still a nice diversion to have a a sense of royal middle-European taste of the era.

This museum is close to the castle in Possenhofen where princess spent part of her life. This museum is in the train station. Entry is not expensive, 4€ per person but there are only 2 small rooms to visit (1 is very very small) and there are a lot of pictures or paints... A bit disappointing I must say. I would not advise the visit to anybody.

You park in a large parking lot at the base of teh hill and start climbing your way up a steep hill, passing a playground, playful wood sculptures of people enjoying beers and a restaurant before reaching the monastery(on the right) and overlook(to the left). The Monastery is impressive with it's baroque charm but the views are more impressive to me. Be sure to make your way to the Braustuberl to sample a few beers and enjoy some food. this is worth the drive here just for the scenic country side you drive through and the oak lined road you drive down.

The Bismarckturm/Bismarcktower is a monument in honour of the first chancellor Otto von Bismarck due to his accomplishment in unifying Germany.
The tower was built from 1896 to 1899, rises 98 feet (30 m) with a somehow fascination architecture.
The place provides an information board in german & a few park benches with a lovely view of the alps on bright days.
Unfortunately the monument itself does not have an own address. The nearest address is Dürrbergstr. 19, from there it's just a short 200meter walk.
Overall, worth a short stopover if you're nearby.
