I returned to the Tenuta Cocci Grifoni Winery to experience, again, their ‘historical’ wines and this time to also participate in one of their vineyard tours. The tour I took was to the Messieri Vineyard across from the winery, here the grapes for the Rosso Piceno Superiore are grown. We were provided with a bottle of wine and a delicious picnic and sat at a table overlooking the vineyards. The view and ambiance was fantastic and never had a wine tasted so good!
Later we sat on the panoramic Terrace and enjoyed the sun setting over the hills. This winery has so much to offer a tourist to the area. The Dimora has two apartments, there are wine and food pairings and lovely vineyard walks. I would recommend Tenuta Cocci Grifoni, in a heartbeat, to anyone looking for a complete experience!

Our friends who had lived in this town fifteen years ago were amazing and delighted by the magnificent restoration of the beautiful old church.
Essential to visit the grotto down stairs and the animated village where puppets act out daily life includes, all pinning, fishing and cooking. Small children would be amazed.

I decided to visit this museum out of curiosity, not really expecting too much...what a fantastic surprise! The collection is really fascinating, the fossils, the shells, the artwork in mother of pearl. I spent at least two hours inside but it could have been double the time! There's a shop at the exit that sells shells and beautiful mother of pearl jewellry at really good prices! I would advise anyone to visit, it was a fantastic afternoon out! A great place to take the kids.

Starting out at Foce ambling across the sheep filled meadow you sooner or laver get to the forest. This is where the climbing sets in. Good shoes and careful attention to foothold is advisable. Once above the treeline it is just a matter of continuing. We did the hike in late June and encountered a couple of snow patches to traverse. Once at the lake we enjoyed a well deserved rest and a drink of water before starting the decent.
Total time was 5 hours with not much ambling and resting. The weather changed at the lake as we left, temperature dropped and cloud set in, so be prepared for this and bring plenty of water.

Apparently artists come from around the world every year to carve their interpretation into the large rocks along the Promenade. It is an outdoor museum that makes the walk even more interesting.

Piazza Arringo

Not as breathtaking as Piazza del Popolo but still worth a visit. It is a large rectangular square with harmonious medieval and less ancient buildings, palaces and churches, with many shops, restaurants and bars. Because of the large area it often housed events, protests and in early July trials run of sbandieratori with medieval drums and trumpets. We had the luck to be there and observe the participants of every ages from different quartieri practicing in rotation and it was awesome.
