O Camino dos Faros (The Way of Lighthouses) is a 200-km hiking route in Galicia (Spain) that links Malpica with Finisterre along the coastline. A route that runs by all the Lighthouses and the most important landmarks in A Costa da Morte, where definitely, it is the sea the one that plays the main role. O Camino dos Faros that runs through loads of different landscapes always looking at the sea towards the West. Lighthouses, Beaches, dunes, rivers, cliffs, Forests, estuaries with a great variety of birds, "castros" ("hill-forts"), dolmens, fishing villages, viewpoints from where to enjoy how the sea breaks in all ways possible, sunsets and so on. A hiking route different from the others that will take the hiker to a world full of unique sensations only enjoyable in this Costa da Morte. We, "Os Trasnos", are a group of friends that one day started thinking that it was possible to link Malpica with Finisterre by using a route along the coastline. We left Malpica and we did arrive to the end, by using different routes and other paths that linked different points along this coast, named, "A Costa da Morte" ("the coast of death"). Eventually, by linking all the points we created a breathtaking hiking route. We were so overwhelmed by what we felt and by what we lived that we made up our mind to tell everybody our experience. Since then, loads of other Trasnos have followed us transforming this route into a collaborative project where everybody is welcomed and where there is only one goal: to make this Camino dos Faros be a reality so that people can make it with the maximum respect for nature. O Camino dos Faros does not belong to the Trasnos, it is the heritage of a Costa da Morte. We strongly encourage you to follow us in this adventure and help us to create this common heritage by/for the people.
We just returned from this most breathtakingly beautiful trek in the Costa da Morte. Malpica to Fisterre. A different view at every turn. We followed the recommend 8 stages. It requires a certain level of fitness, don't think that it is a walk in the park so do prepare beforehand, in some of the stages you will not find places to eat or drink so take your own. The food and accommodation at the end of each stage were awesome, fresh local products were well priced and delicious . You may not meet anyone else on the route so it is advisable that you don't go alone if you go under your own steam instead of an organised trek.

It's a long drive up in to the mountain (and an even longer walk up from the village!) but the views along the way are stunning. At the top you can park and walk up steps to the monument to those that lost their lives in the war. This also includes Leslie Howard (Gone With the Wind) who died in the area when his plane was shot down. Beautiful views across the cliffs and a history lesson make this a worthwhile visit.

In a rocky part of a river, the were several Watermills in times gone by. All that is left are the ruins, connected by little Bridges. It's great if you like the possibility of exploration or perhaps a relaxing barbeque. Visit and enjoy!
The facilities available are in a cafe, 200m from the attraction.

Not far from the town of Pontedeume following signs to the Parque is a narrow winding road leading into Parque Natural Fragas do Eume following a lovely flowing river. After a few kilometres parking and picnic benches can be found on the banks of the river. Forest, trees and flowers surround the banks; lovely for a walk and great for our dog to have a cooling swim! A few minutes drive further down the road you will find an Information Centre and Café/Restaurant. This is as far as you can drive in a car; from here Buses can take you further into the Parque and to Monasterio de Caaveiro. Walking and hiking is of course alternatives!
We stopped for lunch and a drink and information on how to visit Monfero Monastery.
The Information Centre was very helpful and some English spoken.
The Parque and scenery is stunning and well worth some time to visit!

We thought we would finish in Santiago de Compostela, then we thought we would finish in Finisterre but it wasn't. Yes the zero km marker is here, and yes many people who walk to SDC continue to Finisterre. Yes the certificate from the Xunta Albergue is once to add to the collection. But we have the bug so we kept going to Muxia and back to SDC.

Me and partner didn't get to see it on our last visit so we didn't want to miss it this time. The views are breath taking and we found the famous bench. Definitely recommend a visit!!
