Drove through the beautiful pass and arrived at die Hel midday. the restaurant was quiet and we did not feel extremely welcome. The menu was average and the coffee as well. The town was very interesting.

African Relish is a cooking school based in Prince Albert in the Karoo in South Africa. It is approximately 370 kilometers from Cape Town and near to Oudshoorn. We run a cooking school in this small town that has an abundance of produce and is famous for its lamb production. Courses are held on a daily basis or over weekends. Some of the weekend courses are themed (charcuterie, breadmaking, tapas etc.) and often have visiting chefs. Daily courses are held on request in either half or full day format. Travellers either plan ahead and book accordingly or visit us on arrival to see what might be happening or what we can arrange at short notice. We also use the facility for events and have had many happy couples married on the premises. We like to encourage adding a foodie emphasis to what they have planned and this has proved to be great added value. Team building around a cooking theme has also proved very popular with participants running barbecue / braai or "potjie" competitions. It is a beautiful venue which surprises and built specifically to enhance a great culinary experience.
Our group of 25 enjoyed a pre-arranged 3 course meal at African Relish. Our welcome was as warm as the log fire, the tables well set in the modern dining, cooking and eating space. the food was well prepared, the service excellent and we had...MoreThank you for the compliments. The culinary hall, as we call it, was designed with the idea in mind that guests could enjoy a convivial space that incorporates both the preparation and dining experience. I am glad that it works! Hennie Boshoff, acclaimed artist and curator, conducts on most evenings what is called a magical show tour of Villa Kruger, the Art House and Sculpture Garden (featuring archetypes from the Tarot) that he created, assisted by Rossetta Woolf and Isak Williams. As the tours start at sunset the time varies according to the season, lasting approximately 90 minutes. Entrance fee is R200 p.p. Bookings must be made in advance by SMS or email. It is possible to visit the Gardens during the daytime at R50 p.p. by contacting Isak Williams during office hours or Rossetta Woolf at weekends after 11am. Important note: these visits do not include entrance to the Art House and will not be conducted by Hennie Boshoff. No visit to Prince Albert will be complete without viewing the stunning and controversial drums outside the Thusong Centre, which Boshoff and his team created.
What Hennie Boshoff has achieved is unbelievable. His show is something all visitors should attend. He is dynamic, charismatic and the tour he takes you on is a marvelous trip to another world. The art display, which includes work by himself snd the lovely Roseta, as well as international artists is phenomenal. It gave me great pleasure to see work he did with black and local KhoiSan people, the only place in town that pays attention to this neglected part of our culture was of special importance. Be sure to also view the drums he and his KhoiSan team did, outside the Municipality building, again striking because they are the only drums in town to portray the KhoiSan history.

Wander around the streets of Prince Albert on the evening Ghost Walk and hear stories of characters from the past and the ghosts who don't want to leave! Or join a Historical Ramble and discover the fascinating tales of days gone by as you admire a wide range of architecture. Prince Albert has so many stories! The Walks are informative and entertaining - fun for families but also suited to those with a deeper interest in the 250+ year history and the culture of our small rural South African community.
90 Minute walk, with informative and sometimes scary stories. I can really recommend this activity at the start of your stay in lovely Prince Albert. You really feel at home after this tour. All tough you might wake up at night hearing strange noises. The story teller is just very enthusiastic and genuine.
The walk starts at the museum. I suggest to go there before te walk. Perfect combination.

Even if you do not usually visit museums, this well looked after museum might change your mind. Even the garden on the premises was very pretty! We spent an informative hour learning more about the history of Prince Albert. Staff friendly and knowledgeable.

Stopped by this winery because we tasted their Merlot the evening before at a restaurant in Prince Albert. What a surprise, extremely friendly person who welcomed us and talked about wine with such a passion ! Unfortunately their Merlot was sold out but we bought their Shiraz 2013. Sublime. Really recommendable. They have cottages as well, next time, when in Prince Albert, I will stay over!

We went back for Sunday lunch,it was very hot,we had to sit on the stoep.
Now first of all,Not children friendly, nothing to do,so madame owner expect children to sit Still for 3 hours outside in 38 "C??????????, we requested for the junk water sprayers to be switched on,4 times, really, the lame excuse from the entitled lady owner,,sorry the plug got wet, there's nothing I can do,eventually they switched on,after she came out to have lunch, these so called sprayers completely sprayed our table and me,more like a junior shower,
Eventually the food came, not bad,but we had to order extra food as the portions are very small, not the price.
The Owner were very annoyed with the children playing outside,I mean, there are nothing for them to do.
She's got a terrible attitude,we'll Mrs Owner,we did Not enjoy your stoep, nor your attitude, nor your prices, nor your junk water sprayers.
Maybe you don't need clients, well good luck,I won't be back.
This whole towns people have this problem, they think they are entitled to..............
Our gardener got a better attitude,Sies!!!!!!

What an absolute gem in the middle or the Karoo. Everything about this theatre is stunning! Proper sound, lighting and comfortable chairs. They are fully licensed and you can enjoy a glass of bubbly before the show. Be sure to pay the theatre a visit next time you are in Prince Albert! Highly recommended!
