African Relish

African Relish is a cooking school based in Prince Albert in the Karoo in South Africa. It is approximately 370 kilometers from Cape Town and near to Oudshoorn. We run a cooking school in this small town that has an abundance of produce and is famous for its lamb production. Courses are held on a daily basis or over weekends. Some of the weekend courses are themed (charcuterie, breadmaking, tapas etc.) and often have visiting chefs. Daily courses are held on request in either half or full day format. Travellers either plan ahead and book accordingly or visit us on arrival to see what might be happening or what we can arrange at short notice. We also use the facility for events and have had many happy couples married on the premises. We like to encourage adding a foodie emphasis to what they have planned and this has proved to be great added value. Team building around a cooking theme has also proved very popular with participants running barbecue / braai or "potjie" competitions. It is a beautiful venue which surprises and built specifically to enhance a great culinary experience.

Our group of 25 enjoyed a pre-arranged 3 course meal at African Relish. Our welcome was as warm as the log fire, the tables well set in the modern dining, cooking and eating space. the food was well prepared, the service excellent and we had...MoreThank you for the compliments. The culinary hall, as we call it, was designed with the idea in mind that guests could enjoy a convivial space that incorporates both the preparation and dining experience. I am glad that it works! Villa Kruger

Hennie Boshoff, acclaimed artist and curator, conducts on most evenings what is called a magical show tour of Villa Kruger, the Art House and Sculpture Garden (featuring archetypes from the Tarot) that he created, assisted by Rossetta Woolf and Isak Williams. As the tours start at sunset the time varies according to the season, lasting approximately 90 minutes. Entrance fee is R200 p.p. Bookings must be made in advance by SMS or email. It is possible to visit the Gardens during the daytime at R50 p.p. by contacting Isak Williams during office hours or Rossetta Woolf at weekends after 11am. Important note: these visits do not include entrance to the Art House and will not be conducted by Hennie Boshoff. No visit to Prince Albert will be complete without viewing the stunning and controversial drums outside the Thusong Centre, which Boshoff and his team created.

What Hennie Boshoff has achieved is unbelievable. His show is something all visitors should attend. He is dynamic, charismatic and the tour he takes you on is a marvelous trip to another world. The art display, which includes work by himself snd the lovely Roseta, as well as international artists is phenomenal. It gave me great pleasure to see work he did with black and local KhoiSan people, the only place in town that pays attention to this neglected part of our culture was of special importance. Be sure to also view the drums he and his KhoiSan team did, outside the Municipality building, again striking because they are the only drums in town to portray the KhoiSan history.

All tough you might wake up at night hearing strange noises. The story teller is just very enthusiastic and genuine.
The walk starts at the museum. I suggest to go there before te walk. Perfect combination.

Stopped by this winery because we tasted their Merlot the evening before at a restaurant in Prince Albert. What a surprise, extremely friendly person who welcomed us and talked about wine with such a passion ! Unfortunately their Merlot was sold out but we bought their Shiraz 2013. Sublime. Really recommendable. They have cottages as well, next time, when in Prince Albert, I will stay over!

What an absolute gem in the middle or the Karoo. Everything about this theatre is stunning! Proper sound, lighting and comfortable chairs. They are fully licensed and you can enjoy a glass of bubbly before the show. Be sure to pay the theatre a visit next time you are in Prince Albert! Highly recommended!
