I’ve written previously about the exorbitant fees charges at Ontario’s provincial parks, so I was not surprised to find that it would cost over $40 to take a family into the Long Point Provincial Park for the day. This type of money-grab is possible only if the traveler is ignorant of other options, so here are some:
The provincial park advertises its offerings as parking, beach space, washrooms, and picnic tables. However, all this things are available for free on or near Long Point. 1.Free parking is available along the causeway into the park, and the parking places are even numbered, so you don’t lose your car.
2. Beach access is clearly marked along the causeway, and visitors can simply walk from their cars parked along the roadside onto the beach at no cost at all.
3. Washrooms are available at the entry points onto the beach, in the form of portable toilets, and they are actually clean and have toilet paper.
4, There aren’t too many places to spread out and have a picnic lunch right on Long Point, but Port Rowan is just a couple of kilometers away and it is a charming town with lovely parks. Lions Park has large, clean washrooms and picnic tables right on the water.
In summary, there is nothing at the provincial park that is unavailable for free elsewhere in the area. Maybe if we all boycott the exorbitantly priced parks, the government will realize the mistake it has made on pricing.

Take a group of friends, family, anyone you meet and enjoy your eco-adventure We had the best time. Don't be afraid when you read the info on the eco-adventure website and it says "repelling". The word repel scared a few people. think of a fireman sliding down a pole, only you repel with a rope off a platform. It is an awesome feeling. Wear comfy clothes and don't worry about the hair - it is not a time for vanity when you put on your helmet. Everything was absolutely safe and amazing.Best time ever!!!

Backus Heritage Conservation Area is a conservation area in Norfolk County near Port Rowan featuring a campground (160 sites over five campgrounds), the Backhouse Mill, an education centre, and a heritage village. Buckus Mill Conservation Education Centre contains exhibits showcasing the area's natural history (plants, birds, and animals common to the Long Point Region) and waterfowling traditions. Structures (15 in total) restored or reconstructed in the heritage village include the 19th century Backhouse Homestead, a church, a carriage shop, a barn (complete with agriculture equipment), a drive shed (complete with buggies and wagons), two log houses, an octagonal schoolhouse, and a saw mill. Be sure to check out the Weaving Shop for a live weaving demonstration. There is also a "Museum Building" within the village featuring exhibits on the Long Point area, businesses of the 19th century, and Lake Erie shipwrecks worth seeing. A visit to Backus Heritage Conservation Area takes 3-5 hours and costs $8 for adults, $7 for seniors, and $3.50 for children. Cute lil shop nestled in a small lake side town with different antique vendors set up. The store is laid out well and it's always fun to find treasures. One persons junk really is someone else's treasure!

Located overlooking the Long Point Biosphere Reserve on the winding, scenic Lakeshore Road of Lake Erie in Norfolk County in the Ontario South Coast region. Blueberry Hill Estates is a high bush blueberry farm that operates a fruit winery on the premises along with a seasonally opened farm market and pick-your-own blueberry patch.
I came here with my family on the weekend and we were very impressed. The estate is so charming! Very scenic. The market sells delicious pies, tarts, and preserves. According to one local, the blueberry tarts are "famous" so that's what we got. We were not disappointed. We also went for a tasting at the winery. The sommelier was very friendly and knowledgeable. They have fruit wines as well as grape wines, and ciders. Their fruit wines and ciders were both on the dry side, which was great to hear since I usually find these drinks too sweet. I tried the blueberry raspberry wine, their two ciders and the white Vidal (grape wine). I enjoyed them all. I particularly enjoyed the Fighting Cider, and bought a few bottles to take home. Since I made a purchase, my tasting fee was waived. It was a lovely little stop. I would highly recommend it if you are in the area.

A pleasant tasting experience with friendly, knowledgeable staff. The only trouble was choosing which wines to take home, we wanted some of everything! A great selection with some very reasonable prices.Glad that we could make your selection so difficult!!! Thanks for letting us know how much you enjoyed the wines! Karen

Each visit in the Long Point Bird Observatory Research Station on Old Cut Boulevard is such an enthralling and educational experience! As always, I spent about 30 minutes observing bird banding and chatting with the employees and volunteers. I also visited the Bird Studies Canada Headquarter near Port Rowan and walked on the trail which featured many informative plaques.

Our family enjoyed our walk through Backus Woods, with its old trees and unique flowers and plants. Probably if we had been quieter, we would have seen wildlife too. Our fault that we forgot the bug repellant.
