A must see in Pisek - also gets very touristy. The oldest stone bridge in the Czech Republic that also served as a prototype to the Charle's Bridge in Prague. Similar style, but much smaller. Extremely photogenic though, and often occupied by markets of a various sort.

Although the castle is mostly a ruin, you can wander round the interior for a small fee. Especially interesting are the many religious frescoes in the St.Wenceslas Chapel.

The concept of the ,,Gallery to play" is the most important part of the Písek Sladovna programme. Exhibits and programmes of the Gallery to play are primarily designed for children and ,,their" adults where children meet art and art meets children. However, the works of art are purposefully open to direct interaction with visitors, so that children and adults alike can touch everything, get inside art installations, play with their framework and sometimes even enter the stories and experience them. Just like entering a computer game: in the Gallery to play you can enter a story and play in the real world, together with others, again, here and now. We believe that ,,play - here and now - together with real children and adults" is the basic and most natural quality that our children need to acquire in today's world of endless possibilities of the virtual reality. And that's what the Gallery to play offers: creating a new experience every single time you come visit us to play and to learn, no matter how old your children are. Every year, we prepare about three large interactive exhibits that are either connected to the world of children's books or to one of the topics we believe are important in our world. In addition, we offer a beautiful and inspirational play area for the littlest (Pilařiště), two exhibits dedicated to children's book illustrations and a lot of space for single events, workshops or just to be. KEY WORDS Play Play is the most natural way for children to learn. The same applies to adults and cultures. Play is the most fantastic way of learning, developing and innovating thanks to its lightness and to being pretend (even though we know this is not always true), joyful and free. We respect this principle and we always strive to be a place for play. Creativity The human ability to create and its development and cultivation is what drives our work. We would not be able to bring such a diverse programme without creativity and the development of creativity and imagination is one of the most important topics we strive to develop in our visitors. Children in the centre of events, parents welcome and learning through play Exhibits in Sladovna belong both to children and their parents. Adults have the opportunity to learn from children, get charged with their energy and their free thinking. We prepare quality lecture programmes and we train our lecturers so that we can truly fulfil the legacy of Jan Amos Comenius: ,,school by play". Interactivity The term of interaction (lat. interacti): in action among people and social groups means reciprocal influence, communication, alteration of action and reaction and interaction.

Písek is the historical city in the south of Bohemia, placed on the river Otava and established in 1243 with almost 30 thousands residents. There are very interestenting areas to visit, the most popular are Stone bridge (not officially called also as "Deer Bridge" - very nice story about the name, but not enough place to explain it now :-), the Písek's Castle, Church of the Nativity of Mary and several other churches, Jewish cemetery and very popular Putim Gate, the theme of the nice national Czech song. I fully understand that I recommend many places in Czech Republic to visit - and Pisek is also the right one :-)

This local museum resides in the Pisek castle. There are a lot of Exhibitions showing the history of the region, fishing, gold digging and much more. One of the best Exhibitions was the one of Czech kings - large, 3-4m, paintings in the cellar.

This museum is located on the bank of the Otava river about 0.5km from the stone bridge and beautifully complements the shore of the river.

I'm glad so that the city still has this very old memory of its history. It's very beautiful to walk around, especially in the night.

Pisek Mountains (632 altitude) is my beloved area of woods, very close to the town. It's great for walks and bike-trips as well (you can find even some downhills - short but amusing). The area is quite large and even me as a native Pisek guy didn't yet explored everything. When the weather is fine, the area close to the town is quite frequented (especially the Jarnik lookout tower and Zivec cottage nearby). But if you walk farther away, you won't meet much people. The woods are beautiful, thanks to its varied composition of species, with some zones of pure beech Forests (on tops of some peeks), which are even more amazing. Spots that are definitely worth to visits are 'Vysoky Kamyk lookout tower' near Albrechtice nad Vltavou and pond 'Němec' about 4 km from Nové Dvory u Písku.
I have to say that I'm probably not really unbiased reviewer in this case, because Pisek Mts are my "heart issue".
I'll end with a attempt to translate a verse by poet Jaromír Borecký, written on a wall of Živec cottage. ---Stay for a while, pilgrim and take a rest here, before you near your lip to the beuty cup up above the sea of woods.---

Whilst other parts of the Palace had to be repaired or reconstructed, this Chapel adjacent to the Hlízov Tower survived and is preserved as it was in the 13th century. The chapel was built simultaneously with the Royal Palace period 1234-1270. Construction according the 13th century prevailing taste during the reign of Přemysl Otakar II (also called The Iron and Golden King), and the shape of the chapel had to prove the size of his royal power, not only by the place of importance within the architecture of the Castle, but also in symbols and details. Floors of both Chapel and sacristy were covered with glazed tiles with heraldic figures and German inscriptions with praise for Ottokar II (presumably it is he who is depicted as benefactor on the tympanum of the west portal with in the Middle the seated Virgin flanked by angels), on the perimeter of the tiles German inscriptions, for example: “Lion is my name, King, I wear the shield of my Czech country”, “I very much do like it, the King is a gleam, of virtue and prosperity”, or “King, thou art a chambre of rock, that is thou name”, “King, thou art a peaceful haven, that is what your words let us know” This empore (balcony, galery) served for guests who participated in the prayer service. Due to the position of the altar and Tabernacle this section next to the sacristy apparently served as private chapel before completion of the Castle. After 1473 Bohuslav z Švamberk commanded the mural (1480-1500), which belong to the early-Gothic Czech masterpieces and is especially inspired on the “NNew Testament” characters and stories, according the prevailing views of the Apostles: patron saints of Bohemia, Virgin Mary the protector, Christ's suffering and martyrdom of St. Erasmus (unknown painter). Interior: altar “Krista Oplakávání a Klanění tří králů” (Adoration of the Magi), 16th century late Gothic altar relief fragment “Lamentation of Christ” (Our Lady kneeling in silent prayer over the body of Christ) carved 1600-1610, unknown artist who after this work was called: : “Zvíkovský mistr” or “mistra zvíkovského Oplakávání” (the Master of Zvíkov Lamentation) who worked mainly in Western Bohemia. In 1780 the chapel was desecrated.
