Bunratty Castle Medieval Banquet

Join the Earl of Thomond for a glorious banquet at this majestic 15th century Bunratty Castle. The Earl’s Butler welcomes guests from the four corners of the world toasting an era of great Irish taste with excellent food, fine wine and honey mead.

This was an optional dinner with a tour group and those of us that went had a splendid time. From the greeting at the entrance to the pre-dinner mead and singsong then into the dining room for a grand dinner with wine flowing and more singing, beautiful harp playing and then being piped out at the end.
It was a lot of fun and something memorable. The castle was stately and the costumes beautiful. Certainly well worth the price especially when you compare it to what you pay to see a concert, play or even sports event back home.

We visited here since it was close to the hotel and had lunch twice at a good pub across the road (separate reviews). This is a large complex which also has a recreated folk village, a farmhouse (not open) and two very friendly, calm resident wolfhounds which we met. The weather that day started out windy but sunny and with a half hour turned to cold hail. No one was surprised when I told them this later that day; there it can be four seasons in one day. All part of the experience which was great. It must be loads of fun when it's warm out.

This club is well located right next to Shannon Airport and the accompanying hotel. However if you are a little more adventurous there is better not far away in Clare.
The bar is comfortable and well stocked but seems lacking in "what makes a bar special".The locals love it and there are activities but not necessarily at dates that suit the tourist trade.Overall, worth a visit but that's about it.

Quin Abbey

Reviewed By bobjanh - Brisbane, Australia

Quinn Abbey are the lovely remains (substantially intact) of a 13th century Franciscan Friary built on an Anglo-Roman castle.
It is not a manned site, entry is free. However, there is little information provided other than a singular signboard. I am sure there is a lot of history around this site but you are left wondering. I would rate it higher if a bit more information was made available.
The village itself where Quinn Abbey is located is picturesque and there is the opportunity for food/refreshments directly across the road.
Worth a short stop or small detour to explore this site.
