Aletsch Arena

The Aletsch Arena resorts have much in common: being part of the Alps' first UNESCO World Heritage Site. The views of the imposing 400-metre Valais peaks. Their proximity to the Great Aletsch Glacier, the largest glacier in the Alps. And yet, Riederalp, Bettmeralp and Fiesch-Eggishorn each have their own distinctive character - which means you can find your very own favourite holiday destination in the most liberating nature experience of the Alps.

The view from the Bettmerhorn to the Aletschgletscher (the longest glacier in the Alps) as well as to the famous Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau is magnificent, amazing. Hiking in summer time and skiing in winter time here around is splendid. After that relax in one of the various mountain restaurants with good wine and local food.

Aletsch Glacier

Europe's largest glacier, a UNESCO World Heritage site, surrounded by geological glacial featured landscapes and Alpine flora and wildlife.

There are some great views of the start of this glacier from the Sphinx or Jungfraujoch at the Top of Europe. If had more time in Switzerland, it would have been great to head south and catch a better view of the glacier from Eggishorn or Bettmeralp, but I was on a pretty tight timeline so just enjoyed the amazing glacier from the Top of Europe.

Simplon Pass

The Simplon Pass (French: Col du Simplon; German: Simplonpass; Italian: Passo del Sempione) (2,005 m or 6,578 ft) is a high mountain pass between the Pennine Alps and the Lepontine Alps in Switzerland. It connects Brig in the canton of Valais with Domodossola in Piedmont (Italy). The pass itself and the villages on each side of it, such as Gondo, are in Switzerland. The Simplon Tunnel was built beneath the vicinity of the pass in the early 20th century to carry rail traffic between the two countries. The lowest point of the col, and the lowest point on the watershed between the basins of the Rhone and the Po in Switzerland lies in marshland about 500 m (1,640 ft) west of the Simplon Pass settlement at an altitude of 1,994 m or 6,542 ft.[2] Rotelsee is a lake located near the pass at an elevation of 2,028 m (6,654 ft).

Fiesch-Eggishorn

Admire the full length and vastness of the Great Aletsch Glacier in all its glory – from the Eggishorn, the 2869 m-high viewpoint. Just turn around for a view of the higher peaks: the Mönch, the Eiger, the Jungfrau, the Wannenhorn and the Finsteraarhorn, and to the west the Weisshorn, the Mischabel group with the Dom, and the Matterhorn itself form a breathtaking 360° Panorama. This impressive viewpoint is just a 20-minute journey from Fiesch; the change at Fiescheralp is easy and suitable for those with limited mobility. The Eggishorn is suitable for wheelchairs and prams.

Reviewed By MD76_ASD - Amsterdam

I took the cable cars to Eggishorn mid June. This is off season, but having gone up other tops the weeks and days before and finding well curated facilities (view platforms) with at least a bunch of people, Eggishorn offered a unique experience. Views of the Aletsch Glacier and Mountains were great, even being a bit clouded. But that was not any different on other spots. What made it unique for me are the circumstances. The restaurant was closed (building open, but no one there), no clear viewing platform, everytihng snow covered and most of all: no one ther except for some workers in a helicopter. When they left (helicopter diving head first over the ridge to the glacier) I was there all alone on a snow covered peak! Felt quite different from the other spots.
Probably in high season this will be different and still in off season you might be with a big group (the gondola is big) but give it. try and maybe your experience will be the same.

We stopped by for a tasting because we were staying in Visperterminen. The staff was friendly but spoke only a very little English. The product information was likewise all in German. The wines were very good though and we ended up getting a couple of bottles. The atmosphere of the cellar is also nice.
